CDS LGBT Pride Parade - Interest?

Hi all,

At the end of the public meeting arranged last month, some of us stated our interest in getting together an LGBT Parade. It would be a good opportunity to bring the grid to the CDS and to celebrate the openness which we love here!

If anyone is interested, please say so! I am hoping to set up an interest meeting in late January/early February, I'm just looking for times and dates.

We floated some times: March and June, mostly. June is the more traditional date, since LGBT Pride Parades commemorate the Stonewall riots which happened on 28/29 June 1969. But I suggested March because (1) more people are around during the spring and (2) March is around the time we change the estate into springtime from winter's snow.

I want to apologise to everyone who planned on attending the interest meeting. I got caught up in a protest-turned-march in Washington DC today, so I came home about an hour too late. So, I was doing something democratic—albeit for a different "estate."

Let's reschedule, though, and begin discussions here. Let's begin by floating dates. Traditionally, LGBT Pride events are around 28 June to commemorate the Stonewall riots, but I was thinking of celebrating LGBT Pride in the CDS in March, near the Spring equinox and also at a time when (1) the CDS turns to the summer months and (2) there are many people around.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Well done on your RL protest participation Gaius!

I think March or even April would be a good time for the parade; can't think of anything else specific that it would interfere with in the CDS.

I agree with Rosie re: the RL protest!

I also agree that March (or April) would be good, rather than waiting till the summer when every other group on SL will be doing their parades, etc. Let's be different.

How does 18/19 or 25/26 March sound?

I'd probably vote for 25/26, since 18/19 is right after St Patrick's Day. It might be better to space events/parties/parades out a little bit.

Unfortunately I will be out of town the weekends of March 18/19 and March 24 - 26, so both of those are out for me.

The April dates are fine as far as I know. April 22 is Earth Day (I think), but I'm not aware of any huge SL events that would conflict with the parade.
