Gov't Question Hour transcript Sept. 16, 2016

Post by Rosie Gray »

Rosie Gray: okay, well I guess I can officially call this meeting to order
/me pulls himself together
Rosie Gray: :D
/me wiggles her toes in the sand and settles in
Tanoujin Milestone: "wiggle" is such a nice word
Rosie Gray: ;)
Rosie Gray: ah I see Lilith is coming online
Tanoujin Milestone: thats nice
Rosie Gray: maybe we will have all government branches represented
Rosie Gray: and we can question each other closely
Leslie Allandale: And it will be official
Rosie Gray: yes
Rosie Gray: highly official!
Lilith Ivory: entered the region (8.58 m).
Kate Amdahl: entered the region (8.57 m).
Rosie Gray: hi Lilith ㋡
Hana76: entered the region (105.60 m).
Rosie Gray: hi Kate ㋡
Lilith Ivory: Oh Hi All :)
Rosie Gray: come join us in the sand
Leslie Allandale: Maybe we can straighten out the RA then
Kate Amdahl: Hi Lilith. :) Hi everyone.
Rosie Gray: Kate it's nice to see you 'in person'!
Tanoujin Milestone: Hi Kate - nice to meet you!
/me smiles
Leslie Allandale: Hello Lilith, Kate
Kate Amdahl: Hi Rosie! Same here. :) Hi Tanoujin!
Lilith Ivory: she did it again! Falling on my head ;-)
Kate Amdahl: I'm just talented like that. :)
Rosie Gray: ㋡
/me grins
Lilith Ivory: excuse me if I make some poor jokes today - just woke up
Rosie Gray: just so you know, I officially called the meeting to order about 30 seconds before you got here
Rosie Gray: awh
Kate Amdahl: OK! (Lucky timing for me.)
Rosie Gray: and according to the new law, this meeting will be recorded
Tanoujin Milestone: Lilith is a terrible morning grouch as I can tell you
Rosie Gray: hehehe
/me tries not too make too many splashing noises.
Lilith Ivory: shht
Rosie Gray: maybe she needs some coffee!
Lilith Ivory: she does!
/me listens to the bubbling noises in the kitchen
Rosie Gray: so... we have all gov't branches here
Rosie Gray: we can take over the world!
/me smiles
Leslie Allandale: needs to get his laptop power cord
Leslie Allandale: brb
Rosie Gray: okay
Coffee with Steam: whispers: Mmm ... a nice cup of tea.
Lilith Ivory: (and not only all branches of the government are here, we even have a citizen to question us!) ;_)
Rosie Gray: this is true!
Kate Amdahl: (When CDS takes over the world, nobody will *need* power cords.)
Rosie Gray: :D
Rosie Gray: hahahha
Lilith Ivory: hehe
/me assumes a serious and inquisitive expression
/me waits for questions to pour from Kate's lips
/me is still working on the expression, to be honest
Rosie Gray: hehe
/me giggles
/me watches Tan do the SL jump
Tanoujin Milestone: i wonder how i did it
Leslie Allandale: bak
Rosie Gray: I don't know but it looks like good exercise
Rosie Gray: welcome back Les
Rosie Gray: all better now?
Lilith Ivory: have you been jumping up and down Tan?
Kate Amdahl: Wb Les!
Tanoujin Milestone: yes Lilith
Lilith Ivory: wb Les
Rosie Gray: okay now I have a question for Kate
Kate Amdahl: !
Rosie Gray: if you don't mind ;)
Kate Amdahl: No, I don't.
Lilith Ivory: trying to type while not having your typing window active?
Rosie Gray: just wondering how you found the CDS?
Tanoujin Milestone: (true)
Leslie Allandale: good question
/me smiles
Leslie Allandale: everyone in cds should answer that question
Lilith Ivory: yes might be fun to do that
Kate Amdahl: Well, I posted on my blog about how it would be really wonderful if someone put together a working government in Second Life, and Han Held posted a very gentle comment saying, "Like this one that has been around for over a decade?"
Rosie Gray: hehehe!
Rosie Gray: oh wow
Leslie Allandale: Widget grabbed my ear and pulled me over
Rosie Gray: well done to Han
/me smiles
Kate Amdahl: Perhaps ear-grabbing should be a usual thing. There could be a festival for it, bring a friend to CDS by the earlobe.
Rosie Gray: and to Widget too
Lilith Ivory: heheh
Kate Amdahl: Yes, I was very grateful, actually.
Lilith Ivory: Tan was the one who grabbed mine
Tanoujin Milestone: and i entered democracy in search
Kate Amdahl: I've been blogging about CDS periodically ever since, so I hope soon someone will say "Oh, I read it on Kate's blog."
Rosie Gray: yes!
Tanoujin Milestone: ha!
Rosie Gray: oh I should have known the answer to my own question then, since I actually did read your blog Kate
Rosie Gray: and in fact I added it to the CDS portal... a link to your blog
Lilith Ivory: a link toyour blog has been added to our official website btw Kate :)
Kate Amdahl: Yes, but after a while it's hard to remember where you read something (at least for me)
Kate Amdahl: Ooh, neat!
/me nods
Lilith Ivory: how did you find us Rosie?
Rosie Gray: so you were like me, searching for a place that wasn't totalitarian
Rosie Gray: gosh you know it's hard to remember how I found this place
Rosie Gray: I came first in 2006
Rosie Gray: and hung around for awhile because I liked it
Kate Amdahl: Or anarchic with a little misdirected attention from the gods now and then, which is how I mostly experience Second Life
Rosie Gray: made friends with a couple of people that aren't here anymore
Rosie Gray: then I went adventuring... but got bored and came back
Rosie Gray: yes!
Rosie Gray: when I came back I was ready to settle down
/me grins
Kate Amdahl: Is bringing in new residents an ongoing priority?
Rosie Gray: pretty much yes
Rosie Gray: since people come and go
Kate Amdahl: I'd like to help with that if I can. I think I have a cheerleader costume somewhere in here...
Lilith Ivory: but not an official priority I would say
Rosie Gray: hehe
Kate Amdahl: (But not seriously by wearing a cheerleader costume)
Rosie Gray: that would be fantastic Kate
Lilith Ivory: it´s not like one gets put in stocks if he or she is not able to bring one in time
Rosie Gray: lol, true Lilith
Kate Amdahl: Although that's an interesting idea...
Rosie Gray: do you have something in mind?
Lilith Ivory: where did our old stocks go btw?
Rosie Gray: hmmm... don't know
Kate Amdahl: The first thing that comes to mind is something you're probably already doing: more events. I also wonder about gearing some events or promotion specifically to a North and South American audience. I think more residents here are European...?
Rosie Gray: I think there's a fair mix
Rosie Gray: there's Americans and Canadians
Rosie Gray: and a few from S. America
Kate Amdahl: OK, sorry. I just have disproportionate eurofriends, then.
Rosie Gray: maybe because of when you are online
/me nods
Kate Amdahl: Probably that
Rosie Gray: we do have events
Rosie Gray: in fact, we're working on the Oktoberfest celebrations now
/me nods, but has never been able to make it to one! Not your fault, obviously.
Leslie Allandale: what if we had a producer-friendly policy
Rosie Gray: well we haven't had a huge number of events... there isn't a regular club or anything like that in the CDS
Rosie Gray: what do you mean, Les?
Lilith Ivory: as our first region is bavarian themed octoberfest has a long tradition here
Leslie Allandale: So that producers would chose to have a venue in cds rather than on another estate or mainland
Rosie Gray: I don't think there's anything stopping them from doing that now, is there?
Kate Amdahl: Perhaps a venue that was also open to other people to use for their own events...CDS has an unusually literate and friendly population that might suit some of those kinds of events well. (Though again I don't know everything you're doing already, so sorry if I'm going over old ground!)
Lilith Ivory: if anyone wants to hold an event here all one needs to do is to talk to the chancellor and we would gladly assist
Kate Amdahl: Maybe some creators/sellers could be polled as to what if anything a region could offer that would make putting their stores there more appealing?
Rosie Gray: I think we would welcome events put on by others, as long as they fit with our community
Rosie Gray: yes, for sure Lilith
Lilith Ivory: this has happened a few times in the past - with more or less success
Leslie Allandale: No, but governments have policies like tax cuts,, to entice businesses
/me likes working on polls and things if you ever want something like that done.
Lilith Ivory: we have been asked by aritsts for permision to use our amphi theatre more than once
Leslie Allandale: So a discount on tier for a club
Rosie Gray: well we don't have taxes per se
Lilith Ivory: and we allowed for free
/me nods
Rosie Gray: I don't think I'd go for a discount on tier Les
Rosie Gray: a club would make its own money
Leslie Allandale: they don't make money
Rosie Gray: and then if you gave it to a club, why not to a cafe
Rosie Gray: or an art gallery
Rosie Gray: or someone selling shoes?
Leslie Allandale: A club has events
Rosie Gray: nobody makes money except for the big malls, I think
Leslie Allandale: events attract avatars
Rosie Gray: yes, but we do have public venues that can be used
Rosie Gray: all anyone has to do is ask, as Lilith pointed out
Leslie Allandale: That is not the same
Kate Amdahl: I've also gotten the impression that it's hard to make ends meet with a club...but I imagine a club here would need to be the right kind of club (whatever that is) to attract CDS-compatible people.
/me nods
Leslie Allandale: club owners "game" is making the venue
Rosie Gray: well, Cadence has set one up
Leslie Allandale: I am helping her
Lilith Ivory: I am only talking as a citizen and not as official here but isn´t there a way for a normal citizen to get an event sponsored if she/he wants to hold it on public land?
Rosie Gray: and plans on having entertainment
Leslie Allandale: somewhat
Leslie Allandale: We need more like she is planning
Rosie Gray: sure there is Lilith
Rosie Gray: anyone can
Kate Amdahl: I wonder too if it might be helpful to go out there and spread the word that CDS is a good free place for people to hold their CDS-friendly events.
Kate Amdahl: Versus it being available but people not necessarily knowing.
Rosie Gray: true
Leslie Allandale: i know it is available, but for one, put my events on in Purple
/me gives Les a strict look ...
Zag00: entered the region (66.96 m).
Leslie Allandale: Just as an example
Leslie Allandale: My events are quite personal
Leslie Allandale: And I don't think that is unusual for any producer
/me shrugs
Leslie Allandale: why shrug
Kate Amdahl: Sorry to leave in the middle of a conversation, but my lunch break is over! It's been wonderful to see you all and get to talk with you.
Leslie Allandale: it is just information
Rosie Gray: oh thanks for coming Kate!
Leslie Allandale: bye Kate
Rosie Gray: talk to you again ㋡
Lilith Ivory: see you Kate :)
Tanoujin Milestone: see you, Kate :)
Kate Amdahl: Bye Leslie! See you Lilith, and Tanoujin!
/me swims away...we'll see how this goes
/me watches Kate swim into the distance
Lilith Ivory: hehe
/me watches Kate as she gets stuck at the sim border
Rosie Gray: hehe
Rosie Gray: well Les... I see your point
Rosie Gray: but also, there are so many people here that do so much for the CDS, and have to pay full tier
Cadence Theas: entered the region (156.08 m).
Rosie Gray: so giving away tier to someone to support their personal fun isn't really fair, in my view
Leslie Allandale: You need to ask why anyone does anything, before you can get them to do something you want
Rosie Gray: I think people should help support the CDS
Leslie Allandale: should isn't enough
Lilith Ivory: also we have this old law that only one club is allowed per region ...
Lilith Ivory: and allowing one to have one with reduced tier while others cant have a club too is against having same rights for all I would say
Rosie Gray: okay, so let's say that I decide to open a club, and get my tier for 1/2 price
Rosie Gray: yes that's right Lilith
Rosie Gray: and what if I set up my club and get people to come to the events
Gen.Julio Cesar: entered the region (105.61 m).
Rosie Gray: but nobody who comes ever decides to buy land?
Rosie Gray: or shop at any of the stores?
Rosie Gray: or even hang out any other time except for when the event is on?
Leslie Allandale: Have you heard of 'loss leader?"
Rosie Gray: then we are losing tier, and basically getting nothing in return except some green dots
Rosie Gray: yes of course
Rosie Gray: and we have actually done events in the CDs that are just that
Rosie Gray: quite a few of them
Leslie Allandale: well, it is not as if we don't have land to spare
Lilith Ivory: what a club can legally do is to set up a tip jar for the venue and get money to cover the tier this way
/me nods
Lilith Ivory: Hi Cadence :)
Cadence Theas: Hi everyone
Rosie Gray: hi Cadence ㋡
Rosie Gray: welcome
Tanoujin Milestone: Hi Cadence :)
Cadence Theas: thanks
Rosie Gray: this is an 'official' meeting, being recorded
Leslie Allandale: I am not arguing any position, I am just trying to get to basics
Cadence Theas: Hi Tan, Rosie, Leslie, Lilith--thats everyon I think
Rosie Gray: come have a seat with us
Leslie Allandale: good morning, Cadence
Lilith Ivory: oh I just noticed those stone cirles seem to be sit targets
Lilith Ivory: circles
Rosie Gray: these little shells
Rosie Gray: yes
Leslie Allandale: If you want people to come here, you need events
Leslie Allandale: If you want events you need producers
Rosie Gray: well... would you like to hold an event here Les?
Leslie Allandale: If you want producers, you need to understand what they get out of it
Lilith Ivory: we always are desperately looking for citizens willing to host events here
Leslie Allandale: And help them
Lilith Ivory: we would have a lot more events if there were volunteers for hosting
Lilith Ivory: and organizing
Leslie Allandale: that is what I am driving at, Lilith
Rosie Gray: yes exactly
Gen.Julio Cesar: entered the region (234.84 m).
Rosie Gray: well... I've called for volunteers
Rosie Gray: and nobody comes forward
Leslie Allandale: you need to be more Machiavellian
Rosie Gray: it's not my style
Leslie Allandale: should and fair, don't work
Rosie Gray: plus there is so much other stuff to do
Leslie Allandale: You are a work horse, Rosie
Leslie Allandale: I wouldn't expect you to do more
Rosie Gray: all I can say is, that it would be nice if people who want things to be accomplished would step forward and help
Rosie Gray: I think it would be great if someone wanted to start a regular event here ㋡
Rosie Gray: speaking of which... how are your plans coming Cadence?
Rosie Gray: your club looks fantastic
Leslie Allandale: To have a good harvest you need to cultivate the ground and plant seed
Cadence Theas: thanks
Leslie Allandale: people will come when there is a good harvest to pick
Cadence Theas: rl is asking things of me right now, but I want to contact some musicians soon
/me nods
Cadence Theas: in any case the club is useable now
Leslie Allandale: Kittie has said she would play and sing, Cadence
Cadence Theas: oh good!
Leslie Allandale: we need to set a date with her
Leslie Allandale: her rl is busy too
Cadence Theas: ok, I will be back in SL Sunday n ight, so we can talk th en maybe?
Leslie Allandale: yes
Leslie Allandale: I will look for you
Cadence Theas: I would like to comment on the question of events
Cadence Theas: I t hink the issue is not so much events
/me listens
Cadence Theas: but the level of engagement of the members which is reflected in the events
Rosie Gray: that's very true Cadence
Cadence Theas: there was something before the Cleo years that made CDS a place to be
Cadence Theas: and people just came in to visit
Cadence Theas: frequently
Cadence Theas: how do we describe this time? what sort of culture existed at this moment that people wanted to be here
Cadence Theas: more than they do now
Rosie Gray: could be a reflection of the state of SL in general
Leslie Allandale: yes
Rosie Gray: it was new and attracted a lot of curious people then
Rosie Gray: but now it's viewed as old and tired
Leslie Allandale: Purple used to have a dozen tourists a day, now they are rare
Cadence Theas: lol, so the question is how do we engage old and tired people
Rosie Gray: hehe
Rosie Gray: let's not mention that they might be old and tired!
Cadence Theas: its recorded !
Rosie Gray: :D
/me laughs
Cadence Theas: maybe we need to rethink what signifies event now
Lilith Ivory: not the people, the Avies are old and tired ;-)
Rosie Gray: I know that when Anj was having his regular Friday gigs in NFS
Leslie Allandale: Or the new energetic ones from Brazil
Rosie Gray: there were his regulars that came
Lilith Ivory: did you even notice wehave amazingly less citizens with the lastname"resident"
Rosie Gray: pretty good turnouts
Rosie Gray: but nobody stayed
Rosie Gray: they only came for the event
Lilith Ivory: Tori stayed to be fair :)
Rosie Gray: that's true... forgot about Tori
Cadence Theas: what happened to Widget's thing?
Rosie Gray: I don't know
Lilith Ivory: do you know why she stopped it Les?
Cadence Theas: she got good aattendance
Leslie Allandale: Internal politics
Rosie Gray: too bad
Leslie Allandale: absolutely
Cadence Theas: I keep thinking that it is that sort of thing that does bring people here
Rosie Gray: I agree
Leslie Allandale: It was perfect for sl
Lilith Ivory: I agree too
Cadence Theas: current events, debates
/me nods
Cadence Theas: there is not a place in the world that is not going through some sort of political crisis
Rosie Gray: it's too bad that when she first came there was such a fuss about her wanting to use the Amphitheatre
Leslie Allandale: or sl was a great venue for a "live" audience at minimal cost
/me nods
Lilith Ivory: going to discussions that interest me are something I do a lot
Lilith Ivory: but again we needed people willing to host and chair them
Rosie Gray: I always want to go, but never get the time
Rosie Gray: :(
Cadence Theas: we should look at some the university sims to see how they are doing
Cadence Theas: if they get people to their talks
/me nods
Rosie Gray: the TV show idea seems to be successful
Lilith Ivory: I´ve been at the roadside philosopher discussions several times
Lilith Ivory: wonder if they could be seduced to hold something in CDS sometimes
Rosie Gray: ㋡
Cadence Theas: that is what I am thinkinig

Post by Rosie Gray »

Leslie Allandale: I have to get to work folks. Keep up the good work.
Rosie Gray: would the amphitheatre be suitable for them?
Rosie Gray: okay bye LEs
Cadence Theas: all we need is the talks of a few experts to begin to establish a reputation
Tanoujin Milestone: bye Les
Rosie Gray: thanks for coming
Cadence Theas: bye Les
Cadence Theas: see you sunday
Lilith Ivory: we also had this very big think here for a while .. which is held in Rockcliffe too ... do you remember the name Tan?
Leslie Allandale: :)
Lilith Ivory: bye Les
Tanoujin Milestone: no, sorry
Tanoujin Milestone: what do you mean?
Lilith Ivory: designing worlds?
Tanoujin Milestone: ah, building classes?
Lilith Ivory: no discussions
Tanoujin Milestone: hm
Lilith Ivory: might be you have been on vacation in RL while this happened
Lilith Ivory: Rose has organized those events
Tanoujin Milestone: i nguess so, yes
Rosie Gray: it would be great if someone else in the CDS wanted to start up a discussion group
/me starts playing with the sand
Rosie Gray: I think it takes a person who is experienced with it to be successful though (meaning I wouldn't be any good at it)
Cadence Theas: who has contacts throughout SL?
Rosie Gray: and is also active?
Rosie Gray: I can think of Gwyn
Rosie Gray: who is not active
Rosie Gray: and Sudane.. who has so much else to do
Cadence Theas: so, we headhunt?
Lilith Ivory: Delia comes in mind
Rosie Gray: Abby has a lot of contacts
Rosie Gray: right, Delia would be good at it
Rosie Gray: but would she want to?
Rosie Gray: we always come back to the same people
Rosie Gray: when what we need is new blood
Rosie Gray: maybe Kate?
Rosie Gray: she did offere to help
/me notices the time
Rosie Gray: since we are just brainstorming, does anyone object if we call this meeting officially over?
Lilith Ivory: I´m fine either way
Tanoujin Milestone: okay with me
Cadence Theas: since I didnt realize there was a meeting, I am ok too
Rosie Gray: lol, sorry I did say when you got here, but you obviously didn't see it
Rosie Gray: okay.. meeting officially over
