Twitter and Threads might not make it, but... Mastodon and the Fediverse to the rescue, right? A decentralised social network controlled by users!
But hold on. In this context, Federation means: *my* server connects *only* to servers *I* like, namely, only those with users who agree with *me* . And *my* users better watch their words on *my* server, or I'll kick them out!
Result: a solipsistic universe where eventually only one person per server exists, cutting interconnections. Or, worse, Threads dominates ActivityPub, Meta buys Mastodon, aiming to do what Google attempted to do with Jabber/XMPP for chats (remember how that failed?): corner the market and push 'indie' servers out.
