Communications Commission Chatlog 2

Post by Kaseido_Quandry »

The second meeting of the Communications Commission was held on Saturday, June 19, at 2 pm SLT. Attending were Kaseido Quandry (chair), Ranma Tardis, Kamilah Hauptmann and Delia Lake, in order of arrival.

[2010/06/19 14:04] Kamilah Hauptmann: *mew*
[2010/06/19 14:04] Ranma Tardis: hello my friend
[2010/06/19 14:05] Kamilah Hauptmann: Someone said communications, marketing and social media? :)
[2010/06/19 14:05] Kaseido Quandry: yep!
[2010/06/19 14:05] Ranma Tardis: yes
[2010/06/19 14:05] Kaseido Quandry: I've got a draft proposal I'll pass to you, but I'm really here to listen and write up a consensus report for the RA
[2010/06/19 14:06] Kamilah Hauptmann: Gah, still hung up on Blender and camera controls.
[2010/06/19 14:06] Ranma Tardis: do not think I will ever be more than a AA citizen, nothing for sale though I am a member of your group that owns land
[2010/06/19 14:06] Ranma Tardis accepted your inventory offer.
[2010/06/19 14:06] Kamilah Hauptmann accepted your inventory offer.
[2010/06/19 14:07] Kaseido Quandry: well, I;m much newer here than either of you, so I'm really looking for your thoughts on what could/should be done, what works and what doesn't
[2010/06/19 14:07] Kamilah Hauptmann: I see Facebook gets a shout out, but no call for Avatars United?
[2010/06/19 14:07] Bo Geddins is Online
[2010/06/19 14:07] Ranma Tardis: never used facebook myself
[2010/06/19 14:08] Kamilah Hauptmann: That, and an 'avatar' can get busted form Facebook for being a fake person.
[2010/06/19 14:08] Ranma Tardis: problem with the forums is they tend to get toxic
[2010/06/19 14:08] Ranma Tardis: oh?
[2010/06/19 14:08] Kaseido Quandry: yep, though I note there's a *ton* of SL people on Facebook, mostly as avatars
[2010/06/19 14:08] Kamilah Hauptmann only reads forums when I feel the need for som popcorn and lulz.
[2010/06/19 14:08] Ranma Tardis: am trying to reform my image
[2010/06/19 14:08] Kaseido Quandry: I've found it hands down the best tool for business-event marketing in SL, but this is a different audience
[2010/06/19 14:09] Kamilah Hauptmann: How long say, until Prokofy got busted off for being a fake person by someone with an axe to grind?
[2010/06/19 14:09] Karelia Kondor is Online
[2010/06/19 14:09] Kaseido Quandry: I understand it happens, but remarkably little -
[2010/06/19 14:09] Kamilah Hauptmann: Okay, bad example, the point is all it takes is a cuple enemies.
[2010/06/19 14:09] Kaseido Quandry: and there's ongoing rumors of LL trying to cut some kind of deal with FB
[2010/06/19 14:09] Kamilah Hauptmann: That would be nice.
[2010/06/19 14:10] Ranma Tardis: what is a FB?
[2010/06/19 14:10] Kaseido Quandry: Facebook
[2010/06/19 14:10] Kamilah Hauptmann: Fscrbook.
[2010/06/19 14:10] Kamilah Hauptmann: Read hers, my typing sucks.
[2010/06/19 14:10] Kaseido Quandry lauhgs
[2010/06/19 14:10] Ranma Tardis: oh, why would facebook want ll?
[2010/06/19 14:10] Kaseido Quandry: or, laughs, depending
[2010/06/19 14:10] Kaseido Quandry: good question
[2010/06/19 14:10] Kamilah Hauptmann: What ranma said. SL in all its glory is about the size of a wart on the ass of WoW.
[2010/06/19 14:11] Kaseido Quandry: yep.
[2010/06/19 14:11] Anna Toussaint is Online
[2010/06/19 14:11] Ranma Tardis: or biggest problem might be the survival of sl
[2010/06/19 14:11] Ranma Tardis: about right
[2010/06/19 14:11] Kamilah Hauptmann has a rocket blimp ready for a Martian expedition.
[2010/06/19 14:11] Kaseido Quandry: so, what do you see as the areas where we need to do more communications, if any?
[2010/06/19 14:11] Kaseido Quandry: oooo, iiinteresting! :D
[2010/06/19 14:11] Kaseido Quandry: hi Delia!
[2010/06/19 14:11] Kaseido Quandry: Steampunk/Barsoom Mars?
[2010/06/19 14:11] Delia Lake: Hi :)
[2010/06/19 14:12] Ranma Tardis: hi Delia :)
[2010/06/19 14:12] Delia Lake: i had to switch laptops....so i could sit in the backyard :)) sorry i'm late
[2010/06/19 14:12] Kaseido Quandry: np, we're just barely getting started
[2010/06/19 14:12] Kamilah Hauptmann: My own simulator won't be constrained to Caledon theme, I'm going right off the wall. Been making 60s style mini dresses so far. :)
[2010/06/19 14:12] Kaseido Quandry 's eyes go huge
[2010/06/19 14:12] Kaseido Quandry: clearly we need to talk!
[2010/06/19 14:13] Kamilah Hauptmann gets back to reading the notecard.
[2010/06/19 14:13] Delia Lake: /
[2010/06/19 14:13] Kaseido Quandry shrugs. "It's a proposal, and it's being radically changed by what I'm hearing people say the actual issues are"
[2010/06/19 14:14] Ranma Tardis: the sad truth is there is always a crics of sorts putting one dide against the other
[2010/06/19 14:14] Kaseido Quandry: hm?
[2010/06/19 14:14] Ranma Tardis: side
[2010/06/19 14:14] Kamilah Hauptmann: Promote cviedo virally. Good luck with that, the only guys who know how to make a viral video are Ok Go and Weebl.
[2010/06/19 14:14] Ranma Tardis: it has been this way since the beginning
[2010/06/19 14:15] Kaseido Quandry: lol, true - though we're an infinitesimally smaller market segment
[2010/06/19 14:15] Delia Lake: but is that the way to look at it, Kas?
[2010/06/19 14:16] Delia Lake: we have a small number of citizens, true
[2010/06/19 14:16] Delia Lake: and we need to serve their needs
[2010/06/19 14:16] Kamilah Hauptmann: Radio: There's gotta be someone with a box they can set up as a stream server 24/7, and maybe route in some PBS from around the world, mirror some Beeb or CBC or Aussie public radio too.
[2010/06/19 14:16] Kaseido Quandry: oo, I love that!
[2010/06/19 14:16] Delia Lake: at the same time we sould and should have a large number of visiters
[2010/06/19 14:17] Delia Lake: , Ke ng
[2010/06/19 14:17] Kamilah Hauptmann: But will you bother with a DJ licence?
[2010/06/19 14:17] Kaseido Quandry: Delia - *I* agree - if it were up to me, or I were hired, I'd do a massive marketing campaign focused on the public TV/radio, public policy, NGO crowd
[2010/06/19 14:17] Delia Lake: wh
[2010/06/19 14:17] Delia Lake: and people even not in sl who might find what we are doing in/with the CDS very interesti
[2010/06/19 14:17] Delia Lake: ng
[2010/06/19 14:17] Ranma Tardis: more government :(
[2010/06/19 14:17] Delia Lake: more government???
[2010/06/19 14:17] Kaseido Quandry: but I'm not hearing support for that
[2010/06/19 14:18] Ranma Tardis: the government needs to be around for the citizens and not just for being around
[2010/06/19 14:18] Delia Lake: lol, Ranma, i've been saying that for going on 4 yrs now
[2010/06/19 14:18] Kamilah Hauptmann loves the meniton of 2.0 when all four of us are on Emerald.
[2010/06/19 14:18] Delia Lake: hehe
[2010/06/19 14:18] Ranma Tardis: :)
[2010/06/19 14:18] Kaseido Quandry: I'd like to focus on communications, and not open up the political divisiveness of the community
[2010/06/19 14:18] Delia Lake: i really dislike 2.0
[2010/06/19 14:18] Kaseido Quandry: yeah - but the noobs are all using it by default. I hate it too.
[2010/06/19 14:19] Ranma Tardis: always seems to be 2 groups :(
[2010/06/19 14:19] Delia Lake: emerald will have the media features soon i think
[2010/06/19 14:19] Kaseido Quandry: Not here, and not today.
[2010/06/19 14:19] Delia Lake: they seem to be working on that
[2010/06/19 14:19] Kaseido Quandry: I can't wait for that - I love the media features, can't stand the UI
[2010/06/19 14:19] Kamilah Hauptmann: 2a: <--- THIS
[2010/06/19 14:19] Delia Lake: exactly, Kas. back to your agenda, Kas
[2010/06/19 14:20] Delia Lake: the communications must serve the community
[2010/06/19 14:20] Delia Lake: as an example, when Micael and i held the discussion on fri
[2010/06/19 14:20] Delia Lake: i could announce to the AA group
[2010/06/19 14:20] Kaseido Quandry: I agree - which is why I see these meetings as a good chance to listen to people who don't dominate the discussion usually
[2010/06/19 14:20] Delia Lake: but not to the CDS group
[2010/06/19 14:20] Kaseido Quandry: gahhh!
[2010/06/19 14:21] Kaseido Quandry: access is a huge problem right now
[2010/06/19 14:21] Ranma Tardis: so far the communications has been emphics on our differences and not our common ground
[2010/06/19 14:21] Delia Lake: although Sonja gave me permission to do that, it is not what the group is supposed to be for right now
[2010/06/19 14:21] Kaseido Quandry: Delia, what would you like to see?
[2010/06/19 14:21] Delia Lake: and i did feel that she could hae announced but not me
[2010/06/19 14:21] Kamilah Hauptmann: 2b <--- Quit looking at me!
[2010/06/19 14:22] Delia Lake: what i would really like to see, and i don't know if the technology is there to do this
[2010/06/19 14:22] Kaseido Quandry laughs at Kamilah and wiggles her eyebrows
[2010/06/19 14:22] Delia Lake: is to have 1. an integrated media plan for promoting community!
[2010/06/19 14:22] Kamilah Hauptmann: Extropia used to have Salons with various writers and other talking heads on technology and culture. Just saying, I don't see a mention of that here.
[2010/06/19 14:23] Delia Lake: and 2. and i really mean 2nd, a channel for government announcements that reaches all the citizens
[2010/06/19 14:23] Delia Lake: right now we have neither of these
[2010/06/19 14:23] Kaseido Quandry: hmm, good point, Kamilah - several people have proposed something like that
[2010/06/19 14:23] Kaseido Quandry: Delia, I *love* that distinction
[2010/06/19 14:23] Delia Lake: and yes to Kam[2010/06/19 14:23] Ranma Tardis: problem is the community is spilt into 2, cds and aa
[2010/06/19 14:23] Kaseido Quandry: and I think even the governmental advocates could go for that
[2010/06/19 14:23] Delia Lake: much worse than that, Ranma
[2010/06/19 14:24] Delia Lake: not all citizens are in the CDS group, not all are in the AA group and about half are on the Forum
[2010/06/19 14:24] Delia Lake: we have no way of reaching a significant %
[2010/06/19 14:24] Ranma Tardis: I am not in the CDS group since I am not a cds citizen
[2010/06/19 14:25] Kaseido Quandry: and do almost zero to reach *potential* visitors and citizens
[2010/06/19 14:25] Ranma Tardis: the forum is a turn off now
[2010/06/19 14:25] Kaseido Quandry: Ranma, there's a "Friends Of the CDS" group
[2010/06/19 14:25] Kamilah Hauptmann helped found AA and is surprised to be here today, actually.
[2010/06/19 14:25] Delia Lake: and that i could post an event on a cds sim to the sl events but not be able to reach my fellow citizens directly is nuts
[2010/06/19 14:25] Kaseido Quandry: great point, Delia
[2010/06/19 14:26] Kaseido Quandry: Kamilah, I'm really glad you're here, and I'd *love* your perspective
[2010/06/19 14:26] Kamilah Hauptmann: You should see me trolling RA meetings.
[2010/06/19 14:26] Kaseido Quandry: I'd love to!
[2010/06/19 14:26] Ranma Tardis: the land in the cds is overpriced, I have 3k land in Caledon
[2010/06/19 14:26] Delia Lake: lol, Kam
[2010/06/19 14:26] Kaseido Quandry: gods, what a miserable experience most of the time
[2010/06/19 14:27] Kamilah Hauptmann: I get to pop up with things like: You see, this is where a star Chamber approach has advantages. :)
[2010/06/19 14:27] Kaseido Quandry laughs
[2010/06/19 14:28] Ranma Tardis: we can make them lisen to me giving a class in government fiance and accounting
[2010/06/19 14:28] Delia Lake: Albaycin gets quite a few visitors, people i do not know. i imagine other sims do also. there is no way right now for us to invite those people to expand their interesand participain cds eventste t
[2010/06/19 14:28] Kamilah Hauptmann: 3. Roles: There are several distinct roles in a package of social media work. Too often they’re all done by one person.
[2010/06/19 14:28] Kamilah Hauptmann: Are you familiar with Power Law Distribution?
[2010/06/19 14:28] Kaseido Quandry: Ranma, one of the things I'd love to set up is an open university, where we all give talks on things we're expert in
[2010/06/19 14:28] Delia Lake: yes, Kam
[2010/06/19 14:28] Kaseido Quandry: Kamilah, the 80/20 rule, or something else?
[2010/06/19 14:29] Ranma Tardis: am an engineer and a enviromenist of sorts
[2010/06/19 14:29] Kamilah Hauptmann: Power Law Distribution is the natural and organic way social collaborative stuff gets done.
[2010/06/19 14:29] Kamilah Hauptmann: You have one maniac on the vanguard who does crazy amounts of stuff.
[2010/06/19 14:29] Delia Lake: lol
[2010/06/19 14:29] Kaseido Quandry: ahhh yes
[2010/06/19 14:29] Kamilah Hauptmann: Then another few interested people who play back up hitter.
[2010/06/19 14:30] Kaseido Quandry: yes, I'd *really* like to avoid that - I've been the one maniac too many times, lol
[2010/06/19 14:30] Kamilah Hauptmann: Then a long tail of occasionals. I'm in the long tail, it's all I care to participate. Guilt trip me and I walk.
[2010/06/19 14:30] Kaseido Quandry: yep
[2010/06/19 14:30] Kamilah Hauptmann: That's not a threat, btw, just as an example.
[2010/06/19 14:30] Kaseido Quandry: but there's a *lot* of energy in the long tail, if the people at the top end create the right circumstances
[2010/06/19 14:30] Ranma Tardis: wish I could promote a team approach here like the Corps
[2010/06/19 14:31] Kaseido Quandry: but they've got to do the work to make it easy and fun for the occasionals to do stuff
[2010/06/19 14:31] Delia Lake: there are some areas where i'm the maniac---environmental issues mostly---and others where i'm on the long tail
[2010/06/19 14:31] Kaseido Quandry nods
[2010/06/19 14:32] Delia Lake: that's a good point too, Kas. if it is fun, if people learn things they can use in other areas then they participate
[2010/06/19 14:32] Ranma Tardis: smiles I agree
[2010/06/19 14:32] Kaseido Quandry: that's what I'd love to enable
[2010/06/19 14:32] Kaseido Quandry: where you can do soemthign that meets *your* goals and is useful for the community
[2010/06/19 14:33] Zha Ewry is Offline
[2010/06/19 14:33] Delia Lake: yes, and even expand your own personal vision and goals
[2010/06/19 14:33] Kaseido Quandry: yes!
[2010/06/19 14:33] Ranma Tardis: some "fun" things, hear about division too much in my rl
[2010/06/19 14:34] Kamilah Hauptmann: someone should be taksed with taking photos <-- spelling check
[2010/06/19 14:34] Kaseido Quandry: ahhh ty
[2010/06/19 14:34] Ranma Tardis: my meetings at work are less stressful than the ones attended (for the most part) in the cds
[2010/06/19 14:34] Delia Lake: so how can we use sl and other communications technologies to connect people? to connect them around interests?
[2010/06/19 14:35] Kaseido Quandry: we need to find out what people's interests are
[2010/06/19 14:35] Kaseido Quandry: and something like an unconference might be a way to start that off
[2010/06/19 14:35] Delia Lake: yes
[2010/06/19 14:35] Ranma Tardis: I like to help other people
[2010/06/19 14:36] Kamilah Hauptmann: I like to freeze griefers and dress them in a tutu and dunce cap.
[2010/06/19 14:36] Kaseido Quandry laughs
[2010/06/19 14:36] Kaseido Quandry: it's good to have a diverse skill base! :p
[2010/06/19 14:36] Delia Lake: i love it!
[2010/06/19 14:37] Kaseido Quandry: I note, I don't have security authority anywhere - there's nothing I could do if this meeting was griefed
[2010/06/19 14:37] Ranma Tardis: sounds like fun, dressing nazis in pink gowns
[2010/06/19 14:37] Kamilah Hauptmann: sD <--- looks like the dark path to needing approval to have a party.
[2010/06/19 14:37] Kamilah Hauptmann: 3D
[2010/06/19 14:37] Kaseido Quandry: no, the exact opposite
[2010/06/19 14:37] Delia Lake: i am spending too much time in sl....the rl sun is in my eyes as it's setting and i just tried to change my camera angle in sl to compensate!!
[2010/06/19 14:38] Kaseido Quandry: "please have a party, and here's our marketing staff ready to work for you"
[2010/06/19 14:38] Ranma Tardis: my rl is limiting my time
[2010/06/19 14:38] Kamilah Hauptmann: Move that up to: Let's have a party right now!
[2010/06/19 14:38] Kaseido Quandry: yes!
[2010/06/19 14:38] Kamilah Hauptmann: Are ther eany restricitons to making chatter on the CDS general or the AA general?
[2010/06/19 14:39] Kaseido Quandry: what I think we can avoid is, everyone wanting to do an event, or have a club, trying to reinvent SL marketing and do everything themselves
[2010/06/19 14:39] Kamilah Hauptmann: If so, remove them.
[2010/06/19 14:39] Kaseido Quandry: oh thats good
[2010/06/19 14:39] Delia Lake: no restrictions on the AA group
[2010/06/19 14:39] Kaseido Quandry: I've seen a conversation twice in six months
[2010/06/19 14:39] Delia Lake: but there is on the CDS group
[2010/06/19 14:39] Delia Lake: but people have been ignoring it
[2010/06/19 14:40] Kamilah Hauptmann: Remove the restriciton, people want to talk to each other.
[2010/06/19 14:40] Kaseido Quandry: I like that a lot.
[2010/06/19 14:40] Kamilah Hauptmann: Or modify it, Please keep chatter to announces of Party hopping at SLURL
[2010/06/19 14:40] Kaseido Quandry: and I know people on on the RA will have flocks of cows at the concept
[2010/06/19 14:40] Kamilah Hauptmann: Or item of note at SLURL.
[2010/06/19 14:40] Kaseido Quandry nods
[2010/06/19 14:40] Delia Lake: you will get pushback from some who do not want their lives interrupted by notices or im's
[2010/06/19 14:41] Kamilah Hauptmann: Even if it's just a Midnight Madness board, that announce migh end up with a few CDS citizens at the same place together doing something together.
[2010/06/19 14:41] Kamilah Hauptmann: Even if it's just clicking a freebie board.
[2010/06/19 14:41] Kaseido Quandry: I wish we had a better tool set from LL, but oh well
[2010/06/19 14:41] Ranma Tardis: it is sad to see the empty sims
[2010/06/19 14:41] Delia Lake: agreed, Kas
[2010/06/19 14:41] Kaseido Quandry: that's good -i go to stuff every day I *could* announce and don't
[2010/06/19 14:41] Delia Lake: me too
[2010/06/19 14:42] Delia Lake: but i don' t announce on CDS
[2010/06/19 14:42] Kamilah Hauptmann: i used to fight the steady blather on the caledon chatterbox, but I gave up and just joined them.
[2010/06/19 14:42] Kaseido Quandry laughs
[2010/06/19 14:42] Kaseido Quandry: that's interesting
[2010/06/19 14:42] Kamilah Hauptmann: There's an X on the panel to close it if I'm scripting or something.
[2010/06/19 14:42] Delia Lake: that's a good example Kam
[2010/06/19 14:43] Delia Lake: so we just need to inform people that they can opt out, even temporarily
[2010/06/19 14:43] Kaseido Quandry: that's good
[2010/06/19 14:44] Kamilah Hauptmann: And ICS has 1400 member avatars and over 50 sims to show for that approach. *shrug*
[2010/06/19 14:44] Kaseido Quandry: ICS?
[2010/06/19 14:44] Kamilah Hauptmann: Independent State of Caleodn.
[2010/06/19 14:44] Kaseido Quandry: ahhh
[2010/06/19 14:44] Kamilah Hauptmann: Or some spelling.
[2010/06/19 14:44] Kaseido Quandry: :)
[2010/06/19 14:45] Kamilah Hauptmann: When AA and CDS were in talks I was asked for a membership # for my household group and I submitted "1400 member avatars thirsting for colonisation."
[2010/06/19 14:45] Kaseido Quandry laughs
[2010/06/19 14:45] Delia Lake: lol!
[2010/06/19 14:45] Delia Lake: i remember that
[2010/06/19 14:45] Kamilah Hauptmann: I wish I could have seen Ashcroft's reaction.
[2010/06/19 14:45] Ranma Tardis: you could list fewer
[2010/06/19 14:46] Delia Lake: you got his reaction. he left the cds :))
[2010/06/19 14:46] Kamilah Hauptmann: Heee
[2010/06/19 14:46] Delia Lake: still in caledon though isn't he?
[2010/06/19 14:46] Ranma Tardis: a pitty he had his good points
[2010/06/19 14:46] Delia Lake: he did have quite a few good points
[2010/06/19 14:47] Kamilah Hauptmann: There is another problem, complexity of social groups as they grow. You reach a size eventually where the social group subdivides.
[2010/06/19 14:47] Delia Lake: true
[2010/06/19 14:47] Kaseido Quandry: yep, definitely
[2010/06/19 14:47] Kamilah Hauptmann: Haven't seen Ashcroft in forever.
[2010/06/19 14:47] Ranma Tardis: me as well
[2010/06/19 14:47] Delia Lake: some is interests change, but others are that we just can't keep up with everything
[2010/06/19 14:48] Kamilah Hauptmann: And given that an avatar is not only replaceable but duplicatable, real estate is portable. Say you have a contentious issue and the vote swings 51-49, and the 49 walks? Who's in trouble?
[2010/06/19 14:48] Delia Lake: that's another side of why i put community before government
[2010/06/19 14:48] Ranma Tardis: in the cds it keeps hapening again and again
[2010/06/19 14:49] Kamilah Hauptmann: So Delia nails it.
[2010/06/19 14:49] Kaseido Quandry: oh yes
[2010/06/19 14:49] Ranma Tardis: a big group of people are about to walk
[2010/06/19 14:49] Kamilah Hauptmann: Free up chat in CDS, at least t the degree where people can say, "We're at SLURL! Come hang out with us!
[2010/06/19 14:49] Kaseido Quandry: but I'm admittedly very extreme in my views :p
[2010/06/19 14:49] Kaseido Quandry: I think that's the right place to start, Kamilah
[2010/06/19 14:49] Delia Lake: i like that too
[2010/06/19 14:50] Kamilah Hauptmann moves on down the list here to 3F.
[2010/06/19 14:50] Ranma Tardis: well we could all be happy in Caledon ;)
[2010/06/19 14:50] Kamilah Hauptmann: Suggest for 3F, do like Rose does, and join other communities and hang out there too, invite CDS friends to these outside stuffs.
[2010/06/19 14:51] Kaseido Quandry: yes yes yes
[2010/06/19 14:51] Kaseido Quandry: very good
[2010/06/19 14:51] Delia Lake: esp if it is framed about community, so that someone against it would have to come down as against community interests and community building....sorry about being a bit devious here
[2010/06/19 14:51] Kamilah Hauptmann: And attend as a diplomatic junket the steelhead Town Hall on Tuesday night.
[2010/06/19 14:51] Kaseido Quandry: Delia, I'm having a somewhat more radical version of the same idea :)
[2010/06/19 14:51] Kaseido Quandry: Say more about that, Kam?
[2010/06/19 14:51] Ranma Tardis: Steelhead has estate banned me for some reason
[2010/06/19 14:52] Kamilah Hauptmann gets a customer call.
[2010/06/19 14:52] Delia Lake: Kam, can you post a "join the fun" invite on tue nights on the AA group notices?
[2010/06/19 14:53] Kamilah Hauptmann: Lemme check.
[2010/06/19 14:54] Kamilah Hauptmann: Landownerrole, seems I can post a notice.
[2010/06/19 14:54] Kamilah Hauptmann: But I'd personally check with Tensai before I'd go crash her town hall.
[2010/06/19 14:55] Kamilah Hauptmann: But I'd crash Fogwoman's Big Brass Ball anytime with any number of freaks.
[2010/06/19 14:55] Kaseido Quandry is thinking that the world is much bigger and more interesting than she knows.
[2010/06/19 14:57] Kamilah Hauptmann: But avoid furries, they're whacked.
[2010/06/19 14:57] Kaseido Quandry sprays and laughs
[2010/06/19 14:57] Ranma Tardis: smiles and giggles
[2010/06/19 14:57] Kaseido Quandry: ok, are we about idea'd out?
[2010/06/19 14:58] Kamilah Hauptmann: Srsly, I hang in Caledon because 'furry culture nazis' drive me up the wall.
[2010/06/19 14:58] Kamilah Hauptmann works down the list some more into 4.
[2010/06/19 14:58] Kaseido Quandry: Kam, I'd love to sit down and talk with you sometime - I'm doing a dissertation on governance in SL communities....
[2010/06/19 14:58] Ranma Tardis: I hang there because of the Govnah and people are nice to me there
[2010/06/19 14:59] Ranma Tardis: have been with caledon since 2006
[2010/06/19 14:59] Delia Lake: sorry
[2010/06/19 14:59] Delia Lake: got diverted
[2010/06/19 14:59] Delia Lake: am making an immersive experiencial site of coastal oil spill on vitually speaking
[2010/06/19 14:59] Kaseido Quandry: oh my, wow
[2010/06/19 15:00] Ranma Tardis: am still a member of Kendras Guild
[2010/06/19 15:00] Kamilah Hauptmann: No further comments on the proposals.
[2010/06/19 15:01] Delia Lake: need someone to make a skin tatoo of oil smudges. know anyone?
[2010/06/19 15:01] Ranma Tardis: no
[2010/06/19 15:01] Kaseido Quandry: That proposal's not very immersive in focus, and what I heard from yesterday's meeting is that people were interested in more in-world, in-sim communications
[2010/06/19 15:02] Ranma Tardis: why do you need that for? think the gulf diasaster is going increase the price of petro in the US to 7 dollars a gallon
[2010/06/19 15:03] Ranma Tardis: most people in America drive vehiciles that are not fuel efficient
[2010/06/19 15:03] Ranma Tardis: ending all drilling will be a diaster
[2010/06/19 15:03] Kamilah Hauptmann is Online
[2010/06/19 15:04] Ranma Tardis: the USA will have to turn all of the export food into fuel
[2010/06/19 15:04] Ranma Tardis: protesting the spill will have no effect
[2010/06/19 15:05] Delia Lake: this is a widespread disaster---ecology, economy, health
[2010/06/19 15:05] Kamilah Hauptmann: Basic conservative principle, You borke it, you fix it. BP, fix it. :)
[2010/06/19 15:05] Ranma Tardis: yes and BP is trying to contain it, not sure what else they can do
[2010/06/19 15:06] Delia Lake: and effects will persist through the rest of all of the lifetimes of those of us sitting here
[2010/06/19 15:06] Ranma Tardis: and
[2010/06/19 15:06] Ranma Tardis: been to the Jersey shore as a kid and there were tarballs in the sand the size of marbles
[2010/06/19 15:07] Ranma Tardis: what we need is a new fuel source
[2010/06/19 15:07] Kaseido Quandry: oh yes, I went to college at UC Santa Barbara, with oil drilling in the channel - and you'd come out of the water covered in "natural seepage" :P
[2010/06/19 15:08] Ranma Tardis: the Corps in Oklahoma generarates a lot of hydroelectric power
[2010/06/19 15:08] Kamilah Hauptmann: Huh: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/10358146.stm
[2010/06/19 15:08] Delia Lake: sl as a technology, as a medium can provide people an experience that leaves emotional memory attachments
[2010/06/19 15:08] Kaseido Quandry: ahh, a nice bit of diplomacy behind that
[2010/06/19 15:09] Delia Lake: and an entirely different and visceral comprehension of what is happening than reading about it in the newspaper or watching the tv news
[2010/06/19 15:09] Kaseido Quandry: yes yes yes Delua
[2010/06/19 15:09] Kaseido Quandry: *Delia
[2010/06/19 15:09] Ranma Tardis: the press is distorting the news
[2010/06/19 15:09] Kaseido Quandry: ok, I declare us adjourned and off the chatlog :)
