"What Will the Post-Ad Internet Look Like?"
In June 2023, Google will discontinue its 'old' web analytics tracking code. This is due to increasing regulations on the way people are allowed to be tracked; also, all browsers, these days, are able to apply very effective anti-ad/anti-tracking mechanisms, meaning that profiling users becomes harder and harder — possibly next to impossible.
Google — and the majority of websites (which rely on clickbait!) — run on ads. They are as annoying as email spam, and being treated the same way, but... how will the whole ad-dependent economy survive in a post-ad Internet? Will all content be behind paywalls, to compensate the lack of ads? And what about Google itself — how will it manage to replace their main source of income and still offer their search engine for free?
