Yet another explanation of our Voting Method

Post by Tanoujin Milestone »

Evough time has passed since the last elections to give us opportunity to forget how our voting method, the Single Transferable Vote (STV) is working. I found myself in a legal discussion the other day, struggling to remember and in reaction looked out for a good source of explanation, which I'd like to share with you:

https://blog.niassembly.gov.uk/2022/04/ ... e-stv.html

The video on the page provides a short and simple overview, while the text explains the method in more detail.

The quota is the droop-quota without decimal part as prescribed in our code. Esotheric information of the special features of Meek-STV are not included - we can rest assured that we use the most sophisticated and least understandable version with Meek ;)

Enjoy

For those who still like to explore rabbit holes -

Our election service provider: https://opavote.com

There is an explanation of Meek-STV on their blog:

Thank you, Tan. It's a good idea to review how it all works, and the links are easy if we get someone who really needs a good explanation! Now, let's just hope there's enough interest from the community to actually warrant a vote!
