Post by Agatha Macbeth »

Moon Adamant: I offered to chair, but I am thinking
Moon Adamant: who's the vice-chair, if any?
Sudane Erato: oh!
Sudane Erato: vice chair?
Delia Lake: Hi. I'm very laggy today so I may respond 3 sentences late sometimes
Sudane Erato: the LUC?
Agatha Macbeth: Hello Delia
Moon Adamant: yes I was reading the LUC act the other day
Moon Adamant: and apparently there's roles lol
Moon Adamant: Hi Delia ㋡
Moon Adamant: only I don't know who's who ㋡
Sudane Erato: maybe Lil does
Delia Lake: we've only really had a chair and someone who does the transcript
Moon Adamant: oh ok
Delia Lake: for actual operations
Leslie Allandale: No agenda?
Moon Adamant: i couldn't really recall... six months ago
Agatha Macbeth: In the box?
Moon Adamant: no agenda, just
Agatha Macbeth: Oh
Delia Lake: Lilith is sick, Leslie
Agatha Macbeth: That's the old one
Moon Adamant: results of survey
Leslie Allandale: There is a vice chair.
Moon Adamant: i can tell you about the theatre
Moon Adamant: but who is it?
Moon Adamant: oh, and any other business
Delia Lake: I also want to talk a little about the survey or make another suggestion. and I want to hear about the theater
Leslie Allandale: I wasn't here this term.
Leslie Allandale: But, it won't hurt to appoint a temp. chair.
Moon Adamant: ok, good idea
Leslie Allandale: This is a new term anyway
Leslie Allandale: No one will shoot us.
Leslie Allandale: It is an advisory group anyway.
Moon Adamant: new term is not today
Moon Adamant: next meeting, I think
Agatha Macbeth: Dec 1?
Leslie Allandale: Oh, right.
Moon Adamant: i think so
Leslie Allandale: sighs
Moon Adamant: ok, so...
Leslie Allandale: I can take notes
Moon Adamant: I move we assign a temp chair for this meeting only
Sudane Erato: second
Moon Adamant: all agree?
Sudane Erato: and that chair be Moon
Leslie Allandale: yay
Agatha Macbeth: Agree
Sudane Erato: aye
Delia Lake: aye
Agatha Macbeth: Aye
Moon Adamant: aye for the temp chair ㋡
Delia Lake: and new term starts Dec 1
Sudane Erato: yes
Moon Adamant: ok, Sudane moves for temp chair to be Moon?
Moon Adamant: anyone seconds?
Agatha Macbeth: Second
Sudane Erato: aye
Moon Adamant: ok, all agree?
Agatha Macbeth: Aye
Moon Adamant: aye, sure
Delia Lake: aye
Moon Adamant: ok, thanks ㋡
Moon Adamant: ok
Moon Adamant: hmm
Sudane Erato: there's a hole in the roof
Agatha Macbeth looks up
Moon Adamant: agenda: 1. Survey results; 2. Survey discussion; 3.Theatre; 4. Other business
Sudane Erato: Agenda sounds good
Delia Lake looks up
Moon Adamant: ok, all agree on agenda?
Sudane Erato: aye
Agatha Macbeth: Aye
Delia Lake: aye
Moon Adamant looks up, sees no hole o.O
Sudane Erato: snow's coming in... there must be
Moon Adamant: ah!
Delia Lake: lol it is snowing lightly
Agatha Macbeth: Hm
Moon Adamant: jus a little, yes ㋡
Leslie Allandale: through the window?
Delia Lake huffs and puffs to blow the snow away
Sudane Erato: hehe
Moon Adamant: :-D
Sudane Erato: fruitless :)
Moon Adamant: ok, so
Moon Adamant: Survey results
Moon Adamant: for the record, we held a survey on the forum from 20 Nov 2022 to just now
Moon Adamant: survey asked for citizens to tell us which landmarks should get a historic sign,a s we have been discussing in previous meetings
Moon Adamant: survey started with a post: https://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?t=10144
Moon Adamant: and then one further post per sim
Moon Adamant: I am doing a notecard with the results, which I'll share later on, and will also post
Moon Adamant: (it takes a bit of time ㋡
Agatha Macbeth: It does
Sudane Erato: :)
Moon Adamant: but if you have voted, by clicking on each survey post you will see the results
Sudane Erato: I voted
Sudane Erato: what caused some results to be in bold?
Moon Adamant: so I would like to move to 2. Survey Discussion, Delia having the table
Moon Adamant: I don't know :-(
Sudane Erato: ahh... ok...
Sudane Erato: np
Moon Adamant: can you point us at one? I am in the NFS survey atm and I don't see any bold text
Sudane Erato: ???...
Sudane Erato: ok
Sudane Erato: hold on
Sudane Erato: On the NFS result
Delia Lake: ok
Moon Adamant: ok...
Sudane Erato: Biergarten, kendra Clock, Kirche, Neschloss, and Rathaus are bold
Sudane Erato: the others are not
Sudane Erato: the other polls simiarly scattered
Sudane Erato: some places bold, some not
Delia Lake: my comment is that I did not check either the underground in NFS nor the catacombs in CN because I think they should be highlighted in a CDS scary places tour with a hud
Delia Lake: also include the cellars of the kirche
Moon Adamant: ok, I am on Brave browser and I see no bolds in the NFS survey
Sudane Erato: interesting
Sudane Erato: Delia, makes sense to me
Sudane Erato: do make note that
Moon Adamant: ok
Sudane Erato: the undergrounds now in NFS are all connected
Delia Lake: I think the audiences might be different and am thinking marketing as well as fun
Sudane Erato: makes sense
Moon Adamant: the underground looks fine ㋡
Moon Adamant: I have an idea for one of the spaces :-D
Sudane Erato: hehe
Moon Adamant: but btw
Moon Adamant: let me note also that people have remarked that some of the landmarks on the lists are in private land
Sudane Erato: yes, they are
Moon Adamant: the list is a compilation of two lists that we have been looking at
Moon Adamant: plus suggestions by LUC members and citizens
Sudane Erato: if we are including privately owned parcels
Moon Adamant: I understand also the issue has been evolving for over a term
Moon Adamant: thus the imperfection of the lists ㋡
Sudane Erato: there are others that might be considered, especially on the under-represented sims
Moon Adamant: yes, I have a comment about that too
Moon Adamant: I am waiting for this consultation on the public parcels to be done as I want to make proposals for LMs on private parcels
Moon Adamant: which I will leave for 4 ㋡
Tor Karlsvalt entered chat range (18.17 m).
Agatha Macbeth: Hello Tor
Moon Adamant: hi Tor ㋡
Moon Adamant: ok, i want to comment too on the survey
Tor Karlsvalt: Hello all
Moon Adamant: there's just a temp agenda today, we are discussing the survey, then theatre report, then other business
Sudane Erato: hi!
Tor Karlsvalt: super
Delia Lake: Hi Tor
Moon Adamant: i think the survey was an interesting initiative
Moon Adamant: surely not all citizens voted
Moon Adamant: but we can gather maybe from the survey a sense of priorities
Moon Adamant: what do you think?
Agatha Macbeth: I would agree
Sudane Erato: well, at some point
Sudane Erato: we have to settle on a list
Sudane Erato: so....
Moon Adamant: yes
Sudane Erato: by what process do we agree on a list?
Moon Adamant: mind taht I think the historic signs is maybe a work in progress
Moon Adamant: for example
Moon Adamant: CN fishing village and LA brown village didn't get many votes
Sudane Erato: cause they're not very historical
Moon Adamant: I don't think it's a comment on their merits, but only a comment that they're maybe more recent
Moon Adamant: exactly
Delia Lake: Yes, as a work in progress, I'm thinking we should start with signs and can add other places later if need be
Tor Karlsvalt: Historic signs will be an evolving list as time goes by.
Moon Adamant: agree Delia
Moon Adamant: i can imagine that in 5 years, we will want to mark the two villages, or something specific in the villages as we develop narratives on those
Sudane Erato: also, a lot of the sites... the real historical ones
Delia Lake: what Sudane said. a list of villages or neighborhoods might be another list with signs but not of historical import, not yet anyway
Sudane Erato: have had their builds replaced
Sudane Erato: i think the signs should give out pix of the original builds
Moon Adamant: ok, but our template does not allow that
Tor Karlsvalt: Some sites might not be historical themselves, but reference historical people, like Kendra's memorial on the Kirche.
Moon Adamant: we can think how it can be done
Agatha Macbeth nods
Sudane Erato: well, they are called Heritage signs
Sudane Erato: and the only really OLD builds
Sudane Erato: are Rosie's Heritage Rocks
Moon Adamant: and MoCA
Sudane Erato: and the Kendra Clock
Moon Adamant: and Clock, yes
Sudane Erato: yes, MoCA is pretty old
Leslie Allandale: The bridge out of town?
Moon Adamant: I made that in 2006 ㋡
Sudane Erato: no... that's a Moon replacement for what Ulrika destroyed
Moon Adamant: (i think! what year the Quake?)
Sudane Erato: ahh... ok... 2006
Agatha Macbeth: Destroyed?
Moon Adamant: that's it ㋡
Sudane Erato: I guess that's old :)
Moon Adamant: yup
Tor Karlsvalt: We should commemorate the Quake
Agatha Macbeth blinks
Moon Adamant: my idea on this is
Sudane Erato: Agatha, Ulrika got mad and destroyed everything
Moon Adamant: that it's not maybe super-important that the Biergarten, say, it's a new build, or the Theatre
Tor Karlsvalt: lol
Sudane Erato: her subjects were no paying due obeisance
Moon Adamant: what is important is that a biergarten has been standing there for 20 years almost
Agatha Macbeth: Oh how rational :p
Sudane Erato: agree Moon
Sudane Erato: the Biregarten is significant
Delia Lake: while the Biergarten is a relatively new build, it is on the site of, has the same function as, and looks a lot like the old one.
Sudane Erato: yes, true
Moon Adamant: and thus I vote dfor the Theatre even though I am making a new one ㋡
Delia Lake: same for the Kirche and this Rathaus
Tor Karlsvalt: Maybe a statue of Lady Liberty with her foot on the head of Ulrika.
Sudane Erato: and the Kirche, and Rathaus
Moon Adamant: yeah, exctly
Moon Adamant: hmmm there is something called memory of the place
Sudane Erato: even thje MoCA replaces an earlier Museum
Delia Lake: if we have photos of the old ones we might put those in the signs
Leslie Allandale: Like Notre Dame, in RL
Leslie Allandale: Many iterations
Sudane Erato: yes, exactly
Moon Adamant: we can think on a way to distribute that visual info, yes
Delia Lake: yes. I guess you could say Ulrika was like a blazing fire moving through
Tor Karlsvalt: very true. important places remain important. So info could contain the history of the place and inform of the prior structures.
Moon Adamant: yup
Sudane Erato: yes
Moon Adamant: LUC can discuss next how it can be done
Moon Adamant: and also
Moon Adamant: how to integrate the survey results in the work about the signs
Tor Karlsvalt: Maybe someone could create a template, then the task for various sites could be delegated.
Moon Adamant: as said before, my opinion is that the survey devolves a priority
Tor Karlsvalt: Naturally, an editor would have to ok all of them.
Moon Adamant: Tor, we have approved a template for the signs
Tor Karlsvalt: hehe, super!
Moon Adamant: It's Rosie's template for the Linden Rocks
Sudane Erato: the template doesn't affect the ability to give things when touched... its just a visual design
Tor Karlsvalt: ok, I was thinking more about a nc that the sign could provide.
Moon Adamant: sure!
Sudane Erato: exactly,
Moon Adamant: why not a webpage in our site with all that info?
Tor Karlsvalt: That would work too.
Tor Karlsvalt: Tho an LM is always a good idea.
Moon Adamant: i am assuming that, as always, we'll end up having a zillion pics for one place and 2 for another ㋡
Tor Karlsvalt: LOL
Delia Lake: lol
Agatha Macbeth: More than likely
Moon Adamant: it's the order of things ㋡
Tor Karlsvalt: Well we could limit the pics to just two.
Sudane Erato: even 2 is enough... problem is if we have none
Delia Lake: what about short texts in the signs? telling people a little about the site and it's history?
Moon Adamant: we can ask for people to look at their invs
Moon Adamant: Delia, it is foreseen that the signs will do that
Sudane Erato: i agree w Delia
Sudane Erato: lots of info in different ways
Moon Adamant: the template has no room for extensive texts
Tor Karlsvalt: The sign on the Kirche does a nice job explaining the blue light on the steeple.
Delia Lake: short texts on nc in sign and more complete story on website?
Delia Lake: yes, Tor. that's a good example
Sudane Erato: the sign can also say stuff in chat when you touch it
Delia Lake: yes
Moon Adamant: I guess something can be worked up next term
Tor Karlsvalt: Tho the chat idea is good
Moon Adamant: mind also that while the signs will have those texts to be determined
Moon Adamant: we can use the signs for direct events in our territory too
Moon Adamant: geocaching games, whatever... i am just saying this so it lands on the record too ㋡
Sudane Erato: :)
Moon Adamant: Ok, we are nearing one hour of meeting
Moon Adamant: I propose that we table the rest of teh discussion for next meeting
Sudane Erato: i agree
Delia Lake: yes
Agatha Macbeth: Hopefully Lil can be with us then
Moon Adamant: and by then there will be a record of teh results
Moon Adamant: hope so too ㋡
Moon Adamant: so, moving to #3: Theatre report
Tor Karlsvalt: yes, hope she gets well soon.
Moon Adamant: I am sorry about this as it is a bit delayed
Agatha Macbeth: Aww
Delia Lake: yes please tell us about the theater
Moon Adamant: I am working now to have a textured geometry which even if it is a bit straight, it can be lowered
Moon Adamant: oh, I have modelled the theatre per se, meaning the scena, orchestra and cavea -- stage, and the viewing grounds
Moon Adamant: i am now doing the enclosure elements
Moon Adamant: as you can see if you go to the skybox
Delia Lake: lm?
Moon Adamant: the enclosure is rather complex
Moon Adamant: uh, just a sec
Delia Lake: and do we have a land site for this theatre?
Moon Adamant: it's the same parcel
Delia Lake: ok
Sudane Erato: Delia, its at the site of the existing one
Moon Adamant: in fct, it will almost fit exactly where the old one is
Moon Adamant: Colonia Nova (201,247,1025)
Delia Lake: ty
Moon Adamant: Jerry was there and he took some pics for Flickr ㋡
Moon Adamant: atm you'll see a white model
Delia Lake: ok
Moon Adamant: i am working on Blender to make it mesh and map it for textures
Moon Adamant: but the concept of a palimpsest space can be seen, I believe
Tor Karlsvalt: Sounds super. I did see it some weeks ago. I imagine it changed a bit since then.
Sudane Erato: palimpsest?
Moon Adamant: basically it has a ruined roman theatre below, and then it has a mediated space that will show different times of occupation
Moon Adamant: something which is wirtten over over time
Sudane Erato: ahh... yes!
Delia Lake: I like that
Sudane Erato: yes... that's fabulous!
Tor Karlsvalt: hehe, yes a manuscript or piece of writing material on which the original writing has been effaced to make room for later writing but of which traces remain.
something reused or altered but still bearing visible traces of its earlier form.
"Sutton Place is a palimpsest of the taste of successive owners"
Moon Adamant: and Tor, it hasn't changed yet ㋡
Agatha Macbeth: In textual studies, a palimpsest (/ˈpælɪmpsɛst/) is a manuscript page, either from a scroll or a book, from which the text has been scraped or washed off so that the page can be reused for another document. Parchment was made of lamb, calf, or kid skin and was expensive and not readily available, so, in the interest of economy, a page was often re-used by scraping off the previous writing. In colloquial usage, the term palimpsest is also used in architecture, archaeology and geomorphology to denote an object made or worked upon for one purpose and later reused for another; for example, a monumental brass the reverse blank side of which has been re-engraved.
Sudane Erato: LOL :))
Tor Karlsvalt: hehe
Moon Adamant: exactly you both ㋡
Sudane Erato: you guys all have dictionaries! :)
Agatha Macbeth: Just for the record...
Moon Adamant: so atm I am working on the enclosure
Sudane Erato: ty!!
Tor Karlsvalt: I always remark how I learn all sorts of stuff in SL.
Sudane Erato: me too!!
Tor Karlsvalt: I will have to work this into a convo at work to really send them for a loop.
Moon Adamant: the enclosure is a mediated acess that will feature elements from early Romanesque, hmm well really a transtion style between romanesque and gothic from teh north of italy
Moon Adamant: a renaissance folly
Leslie Allandale: Our lives are palimpsests.
Moon Adamant: and some timeless elements where we can indicate the 19th c, or more recent times
Sudane Erato: :)
Tor Karlsvalt: hehe, yes Leslie
Moon Adamant: so, I am hoping that in early december we can lower it down
Sudane Erato: exciting!
Tor Karlsvalt: I sort of think the concept of a folly informs us that what we build now becomes a folly in some person's life years later.
Moon Adamant: even if later on I'll replace some elements with more crooked stuff ㋡
Tor Karlsvalt: Look at how CDS has evolved.
Sudane Erato: hehe... yes
Tor Karlsvalt: I look forward to seeing the theater when it is finished.
Moon Adamant: and then I apologize, because I wante dto bring some pics from Blender, but I got a bit distracted with the UV mapping ㋡
Tor Karlsvalt: Tho maybe it will never really be finished.
Moon Adamant: hmmm possibly not
Tor Karlsvalt: Well in a good way. It might evolve.
Moon Adamant: i think it will have room for adding more things... a statue here, some mural art there
Moon Adamant: though mesh is not as flexible as primwork for that
Moon Adamant: ayway
Moon Adamant: reported ㋡
Tor Karlsvalt: Super
Sudane Erato: sounds great!!
Moon Adamant: questions before we move to #4?
Agatha Macbeth: Woot
Moon Adamant: no?
Moon Adamant: ok
Moon Adamant: so Other Business
Moon Adamant: i have a point here
Moon Adamant: I want to add a suggestion for Historic signs on private parcels
Moon Adamant: or better, two
Moon Adamant: just so it is on the record
Moon Adamant: 1. Ruined Chapel at Red House Forest, by Jon Seattle, was possibly the first ruined building done on our territory. IT hosted the HQ of the CSDF-Citizens Social-Democrat Faction for over a decade.
Tor Karlsvalt: I always liked that ruin.
Tor Karlsvalt: I remember it from my first explorations of NFS
Sudane Erato: that one's good, without the furniture :)
Agatha Macbeth: Is there a landmark for that?
Moon Adamant: 2. Temple of Mercury in CN is the sole record of a time in our history: the merger with AA
Moon Adamant: oops, no... I just was taking notes :-(
Tor Karlsvalt: I suppose it might be,
Agatha Macbeth: NW
Sudane Erato: that's good too
Moon Adamant: but later on on call I can make it more formal
Tor Karlsvalt: Well if you want to do that, I am ok with it. The parcel has the prims to spare.
Moon Adamant: it's just one prim ㋡
Tor Karlsvalt: Mind I am sort of on the lookout for a mesh statue of mercury.
Sudane Erato: Chapel is parcel P210, but I have no LM
Agatha Macbeth: Nothing on marketplace Tor?
Moon Adamant: i need to do a folder with CDS LMs, it's a bit chaotic atm
Delia Lake: I also would like to have the Temple of Mercury on the historic list with a sign
Tor Karlsvalt: There are, but not quite what I want.
Agatha Macbeth: Pooee
Moon Adamant: Tor, remind me later
Moon Adamant: because I know some sites that distribute mesh done with a 3D -scanner
Moon Adamant: from RL statues
Agatha Macbeth: Wow
Moon Adamant: yup, it's awesome
Moon Adamant: it will need some work, but mesh is mesh
Tor Karlsvalt: Mercury doesn't seem to inspire SL sculptures like he should.
Moon Adamant: it's only the more exciting deities :-D
Sudane Erato: he should be called Hermes
Agatha Macbeth: Or Thoth :)
Sudane Erato: :)
Tor Karlsvalt: Indeed in RL, they say that many churches to St. Michael were originally land dedicated to Mercury.
Moon Adamant: possibly
Moon Adamant: taht's the memory of teh place I was talking about just now
Tor Karlsvalt: yes
Moon Adamant: the sacred space carries on even if re-dedicated
Tor Karlsvalt: Humans like continuity.
Moon Adamant: Lisbon's cathedral sits on centuries of previous sacred place
Agatha Macbeth: As Reggie Perrin said 'it doesn't matter what we call things'
Moon Adamant: the same happens for other types of spaces, but is really marked for the sacred space
Agatha Macbeth nods
Moon Adamant: ok, more business?
Tor Karlsvalt: I agree.
Moon Adamant: no?
Agatha Macbeth: Not from me
Moon Adamant: then just let me add it was a great term ㋡
Moon Adamant: as you know, I won't be around in LUC next term ㋡
Agatha Macbeth: :P
Sudane Erato: :(
Moon Adamant: but I may visit ㋡
Sudane Erato: whew!
Agatha Macbeth: Yay
Moon Adamant: and be the annoying member of the public that insists on going back to point 2 on the aenda :-P
Sudane Erato: hehe
Moon Adamant: so can we adjourn?
Delia Lake: I do hope you will come anyway, Moon
Sudane Erato: i second
Agatha Macbeth: Guess so
Leslie Allandale: Do you want me to make the minutes? It was a quorate meeting.
Agatha Macbeth: Sure Les!
Leslie Allandale: k
Agatha Macbeth would be grateful
Moon Adamant: oh thanks ㋡
Moon Adamant: you may need to give them to Agatha to post mind
Moon Adamant: or Lil
Sudane Erato: ty all! :)
Moon Adamant: I can't post on that forum
Leslie Allandale: Of course.
Tor Karlsvalt: bye Sudane
Agatha Macbeth: Whichever works...
Agatha Macbeth: TC Su
Moon Adamant: bye, thanks ㋡
Tor Karlsvalt: I think I will head out too.
Moon Adamant: I need to go and eat something
Tor Karlsvalt: nice day here again. Nippy but sunny.
Moon Adamant: here it's nippy too
Agatha Macbeth: I'll go and put the transcript up
