While I don't think we should entirely ignore the possibility of switching NFS & CN, it *does* have significant problems too:
- Only road leading south in NFS is on private land, we're dependant on citizen's cooperation
- Switching would remove the planned N & NW urban expansion of CN, which has shown to be a popular, viable formula
- Costs US$ 300 extra, which is almost 20% on top of the purchase price of the new sim.
- Switching would 'waste' some of the time of the planning commission and in re-doing the work would slow down decision making

[color=blue:29zr3yq5][i:29zr3yq5]So I suggest we keep on talking about the most likely scenario of having the 3rd sim in between our current sims, where they are right now.[/i:29zr3yq5][/color:29zr3yq5]

I agree. But I don't think the road that goes south goes through private land. We used to not have a road there, but then plot P185 was split and the road was placed.

The biggest problem that I am having to trying to get from the 170m to 15m in a single sim! It is possible, but then we also have to have a build and have land that we can sell to others. I am having trouble coming up with something that can look good with such steep cliffs.

That way we don't have to worry too much about the need to have saleable land and we can have a void 'buffer zone' between the different architectural styles of NFS and CN.

That's true, Pat, but it seems like physically connecting the existing sims is a high priority for a number of people. Putting a third populated sim in ,disconnected from our existing ones, may make good sense from a long term perspective, but I wonder if addressing the perceived community breakdown is a more pressing need.

What does the group think about adding a 2nd sim to one of the existing themes instead of connecting them at this point. As much as I would love to, it just seems too steep to have usable land and still keep them looking good. Unless there is a high demand for a steep slope?

My preferences have been described in detail in this thread already, so I will not bring them up again here. :D

Something that might be helpful to the conversation is, I am willing to pay for 1/4 of the price of a "void" sim set (however only if I liked how it would be used, which I believe is fair). If necessary I am also willing to loan the rest of the cost for such a set to the CDS, but I would want to have those 3/4s paid back to me.

If we were to do that, it seems to me the most difficult part would be paying the monthly maintenance fees, which seem formidable. I would not want to have to pay those as well. Possibly part of them.

Uh, yeah, I guess we already have hashed that out. So, would it be possible to get the voids if people would be willing to pay for one themselves? It might be possible to have private ownership of a viod to offset the costs. But with just 1800 prims per, I am not sure what could be placed there, other then something with a lot of open space and not a lot of people.

I was just thinking, how useful could a void be to hold something like a museum on it? It would only cost $425 to buy and $75 a month. Are there others out there that would be willing to buy a void?

I am very interresting on that proposal, as to manage a museum in SL is one thing I intend to do in a close future. So, in brief, I am volonteer to buy one void around our sims. :D

A void sim would be interesting to own as I have had a few ideas that would require some space to fulfill.

However, what is going to b e the plan to regulate the content or themes of these sims, if at all? Will purchasing one of these sims require RA or executive approval after review of the plan for the sim to ensure that it will properly mesh with the rest of the CDS, or are these sims going to get some leeway in terms of a proper covenant?

Just something to think about if we go the route of void sims.

The question would also have to be where we would place them, how flexible the terraforming is, what "rules" in the way of builds and such, how ownership would be transfered between people, what happens if someone dumps their void, can a void be parceled, etc. I think like any other sim, the RA would have to approve them, but I am not sure how the guild and voting would work if it is going to be a private place.

Also, I know in the future there was talk of a voids being owned by the government as public space. Does anyone know if the current budget would allow for a single void at this point to belong to just the city? If 3 other people want to own the void and everything else is worked out, could the city pay for a void with no income being generated from it?

Just as a thought for placement, we would most likely want them to be placed between NFS and CN for now, all it a line. It would act as a kind of buffer between themes. Also, maybe in the future, we could reserve the right to move the void to better fit a bigger plan? Like if we feel we want a 3rd theme we could move a void between it and the current themes?

Sudane is, of course, the expert on things budgetary but here's my take. Looking at the February income / expense report, we might have enough net income to cover one sim worth of void. Since we have to buy them in quartets, hopefully the other three could have a small net revenue.

A much bigger issue, I believe, would be finding enough cash to pay for a sim worth of void (approximately $400 US) which we wouldn't resell.

After we pay off the CN loans, it looks like we'll have about $US1200 in the bank. Once you knock off 780 (2 months of tier) you're at about $400 (just enough to buy the one void sim) We'd at this point wipe out our cash reserves to do it.

Thank you for the information.

Would this amount be in addition to the normal sim that is planned, or is it all there is at this time?

Ladies and gents: schedule for contest is now visible on both Platz & Forum, keep your eye on that time table :-)

It contains a t-shirt (0 l$) which will not make you hip but will show your fellow citizens that the show is on!

Nikki, the 1200 US$ is there now, the new sim (whatever it will be) will hopefully be paid with loans, so that won't be subtracted from the 1200 US$, so like Claude says, we do have the 400 US$ for the void. The question seems to me: Does the treasurer/RA think it's wise to wipe out the cash reserve? (Please correct me if I'm wrong, guys.)

If we go the void route, it would be instead of the normal sim. But if that is the idea that is done, I am sure the 7th sim would be an easy sell. We do need more land that we can sell.

How would $400 from $1200 equal wiping the reserves? Plus it would only be $75 a month.
