First Representative Assembly Meeting of the 39th Term

1 Opening of the 39th Term by the Dean of the Scientific Council
1.1 Swearing in newly elected but not yet sworn-in RA member(s)
Lilith Ivory, as member of the Scientific Council, opened the first meeting of the Representative Assembly for the 39th term, and invited the outstanding member of the Assembly to swear the oath of office.
1.2 Election of RA Officers
1.2.1 Election of the RA Leader
Lilith called for nominations for the position of Leader of the Representative Assembly. Rosie Gray nominated Tanoujin Milestone. Almut Brunswick seconded the nomination. Tanoujin was unanimously elected LRA, and as such chaired the remainder of the meeting.
1.2.2 Election of the Pro Tempore RA Leader
Rosie nominated Almut, Tanoujin seconded the nomination. Almut was unanimously elected LRA Pro Tempore.
1.2.3 Election of the Archivist
Sandy Burgess nominated Jerry McNally, Rosie seconded the nomination. Jerry was unanimously elected RA Archivist.
1.2.4 Election of the RA's LUC Representative
Almut nominated Sandy, Rosie seconded the nomination. Sandy was unanimously elected RA's LUC Representative.
2 Administrative Business
2.1 Approval of the Agenda
The agenda was corrected following identification of minor errors. Motion to approve the corrected agenda. Tanoujin 1st, all in favour, motion carried.
2.2 Review and approval of the Minutes of the Eleventh RA Meeting of the 38th Term, Saturday, May 20, 2023
Motion to approve the minutes as presented. Tanoujin 1st, Almut 2nd, all in favour, motion carried.
3 Old Business
3.1 Status Announcement regarding the Proposal to bring the Amiais estate to the VWEC
The Assembly was referred to a forum post regarding the current status of the Amiais estate proposal. Members were disappointed about the lack of progress, but noted nothing can be done until Linden Lab transfer ownership and control of Amiais to a new non-profit.
4 New Business
4.1 Call for the RA's two LUC Citizen Representatives
It was proposed that a call for two citizens to attend Land-Use Commission meetings on the Representative Assembly's behalf is published on the Forum and made in-world via a CDS Group message. And to help new citizens learn about more how the CDS works and how they might get involved, it was suggested that they be directed to the online Guide for New Citizens, and that the use of abbreviations should be limited.
5 Citizen Concerns
5.1 Noticing Heavy Scripts in the CDS Sims
A concern was raised over the use of heavy scripts and the lag that these can cause. It was recognised that this is a complex area and it is not always easy to find out what is causing lag in a certain place; dance balls, furniture and animals, for instance, can contain many resources but simply switching animals off could negatively impact the atmosphere of an area. After debating the topic, the LRA felt that any next actions — such as evaluating the situation and finding ways to reduce load, or debating the topic further in the Forums — were more within the remit of the Executive branch, and asked the Chancellor to take this forward. Motion to table the discussion and take it to the forums. Tanoujin 1st, Almut 2nd, all in favour, motion carried.

8 Next RA Meeting
Members were reminded that the 20th annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL20B) will be from June 22 to July 11. (See this Forum post for parcel location info.) Motion to meet next on Saturday June 24 at 12:00 SLT at the CDS Pavillion at SLB20. Almut 1st, Tanoujin 2nd, all in favour, motion carried.
