I was challenged to do some events in the CDS that would talk more about "hot news in SL", to show that we're not a closed community but one open to what is going on, so I thought to do the following on April 25th, 3 PM SLT:
[i:2zq2ed71]Many of you might have noticed the new 'Second Life Grid' logo, and the announcement of 'SL Brazil', a 'sub-grid' (although accessible to any SL resident) that has recently been launched featuring regional content in Portuguese.
German, French, and Japanese sub-grids are popping up, sometimes spontaneously, sometimes organised by a company who is handling the 'local chapter' for Linden Lab (however, without any affiliation to LL).
One wonders if this is the end of a multinational community-of-communities, and the breaking up of Second Life across RL national borders and languages. Although we have lost the 'one community grid' quite a while ago, now it seems like RL language and culture will make a difference in SL after all.
Or, on the contrary, will this help foster a much wider multinational cooperation, as many people will see the language barrier falling and join SL without 'fear'?
Come to discuss with us at the Neufreistadt Biergarten
