Salzie,

This is exacly why CARE is calling for six Commissions to discuss in details these issues with all CDS citizens - and not just leave it all in the hands of ( now) seven people who would decide it all for the rest of us. All citizens - you included - should have a voice in all our projects!

And while I appreciate what you say about low debate attendance caused by RL commitments, when we only have 1 debate every six months and this immediately precedes the elections to the RA, having only six regular citizens out of 60 in attendance surely says something about the level of involvement and interest of our community in our current system of government -and about how well our current government can reach them and motivate them in participating.

The real question is why did some of these people come and join the CDS in the first place? Some of them came because they wanted to be part of the political atmosphere, but others came for the builds, and others came for the people. I know you have big ideas Michel, I just don't know how realistic they actually are. There are some that don't want to be part of the political landscape. And based on some of the forum posts as of late, I don't blame them.

I mean, is it so hard for you to see that your idea of applying RL ideas of the role of government in SL really does not work? We realy need to ask different questions and do things differently- and as long as you guys will keep sitcking your head in the sand and ignoring the evidence and throwing mud and stones and those who are honestly trying to bring about some positive changes, we will not grow and improve and become a fun, lively community. This is what this entire election boils down to.[/quote:x319pejv]
What have you really achieved in the public sphere in your 6 months in the RA? Face it, we are a community of volunteers. Growing expansive will not help, six commissions with 1.5 citizens each will not help. There are ideas that will help, some of the best of them are being proposed by other CARE members, but most of what your projects do is little but build up CARE. That helps if you feel that CARE = CDS, but it leaves the rest of us behind.

The way to get people involved is to make this a pleasant place where they will feel recognized for their contributions. Most of what you talk about is about how everyone else has messed up and your ascendancy will bring in a bright new day. It wont.
totally agree with what you say- but Jon, you haven't done this in two years now!![/quote:x319pejv]
Where do you get this misinformation!

The CSDF was started [b:x319pejv]one[/b:x319pejv] year ago. The CSDF has always been a small opposition party, never having a majority or even the largest number of representatives in the RA, never electing a chancellor. We have done amazing things as a minority.

Since you are also criticizing the guild (not affiliated in any way with the CSDF) I better talk about what it has achieved. The guild is a follow on from the SPC. The SPC (mainly Moon, Sudane, Brian, Tony, and myself) built Colonia Nova. The guild proper has been in existence only a mater of months and already has a new sim plan underway. It is made up entirely of volunteers with RL commitments, so the process may be slower than a professional team made up of hired contractors.

Clearly you think the guild has been a failure in its short life. What would you change? How do you intend to run the new guild? Replace it with one run by professional contractors? Raise our tier 100% to pay for those? Please show me a budget.
SL is expanding geometrically and we're growing at the rate of less then 10 citizens per election cycle![/quote:x319pejv]
Actually research studies have shown that the SL is not growing geometrically, in spite of LL's claims. Even if it were growing at that rate, why do we have to keep up? I'd rather we complete our small continent and focus on making it the best place we possibly can. Lead by example, not by volume.
Oh come on Jon, be fair! Look at the facts:
1. All builders I and "my friends" have used are CDS citizens!
[/quote:x319pejv]Many become CDS citizens about the time they start working for you. I quite approve! Not a bad way to recruit new citizens. For each of the people you list, please specify exactly how long they had been citizens of the CDS before they did their first work for you or your friends?

The point is, I think it is fine to bring in people who have skills, but we should be spending more energy on the citizens we have.
Everything I have done (video, lectures, conferences, events, arts, concerts, ER) has been to ensure CDS gets some outside publicity and becomes better known! These are concrete actions and results, Jon, not just hot air about democracy and community heating up the Rathaus and evaporating in the cold ether as soon as some laws are adopted![/quote:x319pejv]Much of what you do is to get yourself better known. Its not a bad thing when it also helps the CDS, but I think you end up with many people seeing the CDS (CN mainly) as Michel's place and that intimidates others who might set up their projects here.

This forum is for announcing events in the CDS. This has become an analysis of an event in the CDS and has so been moved to General.
