Presentation CARE's draft Media and Information Act

Post by michelmanen »

During the January 2007 campaign, CARE proposed that all CDS media of information and communication be consolidated, rationalised, streamlined and become publicly-owned. During the recent Elections, CARE stated it would introduce a [i:u4paf9hh]Media and Information Ac[/i:u4paf9hh]t to this effect.

The Social Democrats included language substantially similar in their most recent [i:u4paf9hh]Election Manifesto[/i:u4paf9hh].

Therefore, CARE will propose a [i:u4paf9hh]Media and Information Act[/i:u4paf9hh].

Anyone interested in the draft [i:u4paf9hh]Media and Information Act[/i:u4paf9hh] and CARE's discussions on this matter can follow and participate here: http://www.care-cds.com/forum/index.php?topic=45.0 .

And there was me thinking you nicked the idea from us!

I suppose you consider the one-liner " 5.2 Fairness – publicly-owned information meda (sic)" to be equivalent to "2. Web presence
We will establish a single web portal, owned by the CDS and maintained by civil servants rather than volunteers. We should be truly grateful for the volunteer effort and private web space donated by CDS citizens but it is not appropriate for things to be run this way and, as we've seen when things go wrong, it's not a solution we should rely on. Let's do this professionally instead. Ultimately, we want to have a website which will draw people interested in democracy in virtual worlds into Second Life via the CDS."

I don't think most people will though. One, after all, is not even a sentence while the second is a policy statement that actually says what we would [b:1b5q2y76]do[/b:1b5q2y76].

So it's an iterative process. Debate on this had been going on for a while, as my detailed conversations with Gwyn on this topic revealed some seven months ago. CARE included this in its January 2007 Campaign Manifesto and Video. The CSDF picked it up and develped an action statement. CARE specified in its July 2007 Policy Platform that it would introduce a [i:2srcpgmf]Media and Infromation Act[/i:2srcpgmf]: "...bringing all CDS information media on the web under one publicly-owned portal to streamline and enhance its accessibility and effectiveness..." here: http://www.care-cds.com/forum/index.php?topic=11.0 as well as in CARE Menifesto and Policy Platform notecards distributed to a great mumber of CDS citizens. We now submit an actual Bill specifying the mechanics of achieving the desired result. No one has the monopoly of policies and ideas. We clearly mentioned the CSDF contribution in this process and never claimed "exclusdive ownership" of this idea. We believe in a cooperative, iterative policy-making process involving members of all parties and beyond that, any citizens willing to participate. This is exactly what this is. I fail to see how your claim of "ownership" of this issue adds to the process - especially since it is clerly not accurate. The issue itself has been discussed in our community for quite a while, as I said, and CARE was the first CDS faction who introduced the subject in its election manifesto, in January 2007.

Can we now forget this type of discussion and actually focus on the substantive issues?

LOL!

So, first you claim ownership of the idea. Then say it's an iterative process which lots of people contributed to. Then say 'We thought of it first but could you please not challenge that'? Priceless!

We do not claim any ownership whatsover. I just described the process and its various stages. Not once is the notion of " CARE ownership" of this idea mentioned in my posts. It's just not part of our paradigm of policy-making.
