Join our Dean of the SC tomorrow (Sunday, August 26) from 2 to 3 pm in the CN Amp;hitheater:
Mediation and arbitration are alternate ways of dispute resolution in real life, and they allow two parties to avoid litigation in court using a more flexible system to come to an agreement quickly.
In Second Life, several attempts have been made to establish something similar, but there was always an issue: how to guarantee that the mediator/arbitrator remains neutral and trusting, and how can a system be set up so that it lasts a long time (half a year is an eternity in SL!)?
A possible answer is the eJustice Centre, which has the sponsorship of the Portuguese Government (and is staffed by professionals and law students overseen by professional mediators) -- an international mediation and arbitration centre, specifically to deal with alternative dispute resolution between commerce and business issues between Second Life residents.
Since most people are not aware of how a mediation and arbitration centre actually works, this session at Colonia Nova's Amphitheatre will explain all you need to know.
