SL5B CDS display: ideas?

Post by Jamie Palisades »

We've been asked to provide a CDS booth at the SL5B official birthday delebration of Second Life. Big, well-publicized multi-sim event celebrating "best of" CDS. [1]
We've applied, and my guess is we will be accepted. [2] Our PIO has asked for input - FAST input - from the RA about what the theme and content should be. With this post, I am asking on behalf of the RA for other input from citizens. In a second post [3], I will give you my own views -- which are just personal opinions.

Regards Jamie P

SL5B CDS display: ideas (politics, art & ?)

Post by Jamie Palisades »

My own first take is that we might include three things in a display about CDS: things that re-use rich existing content.

First, we should note the distinction that NAB>NFS>CDS has as the first (and longest, and most successful) virtual world selfgovernment. (I think of this as the "Past" segment, and easily reusing some old blog /posts content on our history.)
Second, as the "present", we should note an example of current projects -- what do selfgoverned sims generate? My recommendation is the arts: showing off by selected photos and links our several successful sculpture art walks, MoCA and the Monastery.
Third, we should consider mentioning possible future issues of interest to CDS. One possibility is pointers to our conversations about future projects addressing environmental concerns. Nascent, but interesting.

I feel less strongly about that third -- but my concept here is to present both the interesting fact of our democracy, and some concrete examples of (nonpolitical) things of value that a democracy produces.

All comments, thrown eggs, etc. welcome. Anyone got a better idea? Regards Jamie

How cool to be included in this celebration!

While there is merit in the chronology, we kind of did that last year i think... Aliasi handled the exhibit i think, and it did pretty much what you describe. We can follow that line as a traditional sort of thing, or try to focus on what makes CDS Unique.

Elections are the first thing that pops into my mind.. what about election memorabilia?

But community is still something that keeps coming up over and over and sets one sim apart from another. Maybe some review of community "spirit" .. in which we could have an election display,(our political side) something with moca/monastery(sculpture walk is great, but do we have a prim limit?)(our artistic side), and just fun...maybe the ice melt, oktoberfest, bierhaus restoration, maypole dance... (our social side?)

Hey, i'm in a brainstorming mood :)

Thank you for your suggestions. I can give some informations:

- CDS has a 512 msq plot
- the prims limit is 100
- the general thematic of the exhibition is artistic (we are in the category of "SL artists"

Anyway it may be very open to everything...

I have content about our artistical activities (that we have presented in an other exhibition).
If anyone has content about CDS, other cultural activities like music, performance, etc., I will be glad to present them.
If anyone has content about other topics (but related to CDS), he/she can contact me or send me a notecard.

In any case, I'll add our official information about CDS, with the mention that we are opening a 4th sim ....

I have also proposed that we organize a party in one of the CDS sims to celebrate this anniversary. I don't think that the Schloss is the best place. We can imagine other places:

- Theater of CN
- Platz of NFS (with polka)
- fields between AM and NFS with a fireplace

Tell your preference :-)

Seems like we ought to include parts of the GMP exhibit in our SL5B exhibit. Not only is it unique, it is also truly a creative piece of work and the process highlights ways in which we're harnessing group creativity in CDS.
