Locus Amoenus Foundation Ceremony

Post by symokurka »

What I propose here is a reinterpretation of an about 3000 yo tradition, which has gone lost. Be respectful with the spirit of this draft and have fun volunteering and helping to make it come back to reality.

LOCUS AMOENUS RITUAL FOUNDATION CEREMONY.

The ceremony will be held by Guild members PIO, sympathizers, and will be open to all citizens who wish a wealthy new Sim. Here follow the main steps.

1) PIO opens the ceremony asking Guild Members to indicate where the CENTER of LA will be.

2) A Priest/Priestess will rez 12 birds flying on our right (EAST)

3) At the center of the Sim we’ll excavate a hole and rez a bowl (MUNDUS) – The Mundus represents the mirror of sky vault and shows three axes which correspond to cardo, decumanus and azimut (the connection between the sky vault, the earth and the underworld).

4) A Priest/Priestess will call each one of the present citizens to throw into the Mundus a small object (earth, food, any “good, wishful” thing) which comes from his own land of origin (RL origin). This represents the deal between different origin people to contribute to the birth of a new united community.

5) The “main builder” of the Sim will rez exactly in the middle of the Mundus a Black Stone (Omphalos – UMBILICULUS MUNDI -Lapis Niger), the “navel” which represents the center that joins earth to sky, and the wish to settle forever our citizens. On the surface of the Lapis Niger a ritual wishful phrase is written. The Lapis Niger contains a notecard with the SECRET NAME of the city.

6) Four Priests/Priestesses will track the main roads departing from the Lapis Niger.

7) The Mundus will be now covered. On top of the pavement we’ll rez an ALTAR. We ehm should now sacrifice a white cow and a a white bull (no blood, slowly vanishing in alpha). And light a fire on the altar while a Priest/Priestess recites a ritual wishful speach.

8) We’ll end the ceremony dancing.

9) ONCE PER YEAR the Mundus will be opened and a wishful speach repeated by the PIO.

Waiting for comments. Each one prepare his own stuff to throw down into the Mundus (small objects please). Tomorrow I'll add a list of objects required for the ceremony.

I think the plans for the foundation ceremony are fantastic, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm thinking now about what I could bring as an object to represent my homeland. This is really creative, has links to the past and is a great way to bring the community together. Thanks for putting this together Symo.

Locus Amoenus Foundation Ceremony: It's time!

Post by Rose Springvale »

Bumping this to the top... We will hold this Ceremony at 3pm slt on Friday August 26. Please let me know ASAP if you are willing to take one of the parts! I am not afraid to beg.

EVERYONE should try to think of something to bury in the mundus. If you can't attend the ceremony, you can pass your object to me and we'll find a priest or priestess to represent you!

So, how low is low prim?

Also, I hope someone takes a movie of it. It would be wonderful to document.

I would say no more than half a dozen prims. If what you have in mind is primmier than that, perhaps better to use an image, which is what i am going to do with mine - mine being a traditional bouquet of wheat, olive branch, daisies and poppies, which we get in May and keep all year long in our houses - symbolizing bread, health, money and happiness.
