Showcase!

Post by Rose Springvale »

CDS Saturnalia Festival is featured in the Linden Lab Winterfaire Showcase right now. I've been watching since the Winterfaire began and assumed we didnt' make it, but was in CN tonight and LOTS of people were tping in. Most of them looking for friendly faces and interesting things to do! Please hang out in Colonia Nova if you get some free time and make these visitors welcome! Our citizens truly are our best attraction.

Some things you can direct visitors to... thermae, shops, owls, skating on the river, dances in the docks (the rules required that there be nothing commercial at the landing point so i submitted the docks) snowball fight on the open land next to the roman pool, ... then send them on up to the hang gliders, the owl tour, the biergarten... well, you all know what we have! and there are still a few parcels open in LA for people who love us too much to leave!

I'm really excited to see so many PEOPLE in our sims!

Kudos as always to Rose whose submission of the link got us the pointer from the traffic-driving Linden folks.
There's a small info display set up, until the Winterfaire is over, at the Linden search landing point on our docks:

See photo below. One of the virtues of having a bit of organization: we already had the material ready :D

CDS' main draw is that it's a really pretty, high-quality community with creative people.
I think that shines through, for those who visit us. We seem to get a few new residents from each
major event, even in a down economy ... so far, so good.
Regards and happy new year JP

Seems a shame that these events happen during my work day. Just taking a quick break from my fiscal reoprts to say "hi".
Oh well, back to my reports :p

Actually, this is not an event at all, but Linden Labs including our sim on its Winterfaire grand tour. It was an application process that we submitted several weeks ago. Being included means a Linden came to the sim, checked it out and decided to include it ... and i've reason to believe not every sim that applied was chosen. I see the SL forum thread on Winterfaire is now mysteriously short (it was several pages long last time i checked!) but here is the place where the application process was announced. http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?t=296290 Our committee on Holiday events included being in the Linden sponsored event on its wish list, and that's why the application was made.http://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2208

Lindens do suggest that we put up an events sign at the tp point for any events that will happen in the sim... so if anyone decides to do anything between now and Jan 5, let Jamie or I know and we'll make sure it's highlighted. I'm trying to meet some rl year end deadlines, but if you send me a note, it will come through IM and i'll make a point to come in world to handle. Jamie made a nice greeter stand (Thanks Jamie!)... it would be great if people want to hang out there and mingle with visitors. I will try to do just that a little later tonight.

The important thing though is to remember that people coming in through Showcase are often newer people to SL, or curious, or explorers, and they are genuinely interested in what we've done with the sims. I was able to talk with several last night, and find that many are interested in the community as well. We ARE different... we ARE friendly, and that is what a lot of people want from their sl experience. Winterfaire is an opportunity to help them find it :).

Keep up the good work Rose! You are doing a great job if the Lindens approve and that is not lip service!
Thank you for your hard work towards the cause :)

Great, Rose and Jamie! Let's hope Winterfaire listing brings us many new visitors who enjoy what they see (and read) and decide to settle here. Happy New Year 2009, CDS! :)

Happy New Year!!!

In 2009 may the CDS be the most fun and the most successful of a project it has ever been.
