Al Andalus merger thread (discussion)

Post by Jamie Palisades »

I am putting official announcements about our progress with the CDS-Al Andalus merger in this thread:
http://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2498
That's a read-only list for citizens. However, for any discussions, we can use this one here.

CDS Al Andalus citizenship welcome plans

Post by Jamie Palisades »

Here's my current plans for events and actions to promote the integration of our CDS and AA communities. Comments welcome.

1. Land move expected 22 July, per prior postings. More on this in a separate thread, for those who like technical details.

2. A list of new qualified CDS citizens from AA (under CDS law) has been sent to the CDS SC. That will be the basis for SC's review of any calculations regarding how we add the citizens to the CDS rolls, for purposes of RA representation, and future elections. This data, and any procedural issues and my recommendations, will be summarized in a separate thread on the Forum. In summary, there are 57 new CDS citizens from AA, and 3 dual citizens who will be counted with them under the applicable laws, for a total of 60, which will result in a 13-member Representative Assembly. Of course, all that is subject to CDS SC review and appeal.

3. AA has a large interest SL group list ("Al-Andalus") which covers their specific events. Note that there are hundreds of interested parties, but non AA residents, included. As a group, they will receive several welcome and merger notice messages, but this larger group ought not be spammed. All will be invited to join us, of course. The list will continue (rather like the "Neufreistadt" and "Colonia Nova" groups) for local program announcements, but CDS-wide, all CDS devents will be announced to the main "C.D.S." group also. Rose and I will recommend to the next Chancellor and PIO that Al Andalus events, as well as other CDS events, continue to be posted to the CDS Google calendar -- to which you can subscribe by the name "Confederation of Democratic Simulators SL", or which you can view here on our portal:
http://portal.slcds.info/index.php?id=93

4. All AA persons who we have identified as CDS citizens will be proactively invited into the SL C.D.S. group this weekend. (The C.D.S. group also always has some noncitizen "friends of CDS" in it.)

5. New CDS citizens from AA, including but definitely not limited to the new CDS RA reps elected by AA, will face the task of understanding our governance system. In a democracy, every citizen ought to have a basic understanding of their right to vote, be heard, petition the government, and so on. CDS also has some aspects like factions and the scientific council that are not completely intuitive, and might require explaining. To assist with that, I have added to our calendar two tentative "CDS Citizen Roundtable" sessions, at
15h30 SLT, Thursday, 23 July, and
08h30 SLT, Saturday, 25 July
which Gwyneth Llewelyn (from CSDF) & I (from SP) hope to both help present. I am seeking a DPU presenter with government experience as well. Needless to say, we will be explaining how the system does work, rather than how it might be changed, to provide practical Q&A to any new citizens who wish it. I am hoping for friendly, informal, nonpompous and short. Really, we ought to do this periodically in any case, as new neighbors come to CDS from a variety of sources.

6. Tentative "get to know the bigger clan" party event on Saturday, 25 July at 13h00 SLT, probably melding into the To Limani event at 15h00.

Warm regards JP
