Election schedules

Post by Cindy Ecksol »

As mentioned here http://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2578 the RA today approved a change to our election schedule. I committed to posting the election-related dates for the next two terms so that they would be clear to everyone. We will also add these dates to the CDS calendar.

New term begins: 1 Feb 2010
Elections: 9-16 Jan 2010
Candidate declaration deadline: 25 Dec 2009
Faction viability date: 25 Dec 2009
Citizen list certification: 12 Dec 2009

New term begins: 1 July 2010
Elections: 12-19 Jun 2010
Candidate declaration deadline: 28 May 2010
Faction viability date: 28 May 2010
Citizen list certification: 15 May 2010

I'll do more of these when I get a chance, posting them to this thread and to the calendar. Or maybe someone who likes calendar arithmetic can figure out how to calculate them using a program and generate the dates into the future :-) Instructions can be found in the CDS Constitution http://portal.slcds.info/index.php?id=135 Article I, Section 2; Article IV, Section 2; Article V, Section 3

And as long as I'm writing this, for completeness here's a cross-post to the discussion we had about election date changes prior to RA approval: http://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php? ... 4&start=15

Thanks to a delay in getting a proper census, we are bumping the election and related dates for this term slightly. (Subject to RA approval at their meeting tomorrow, but this is what the SC is going for).

New term begins: 1 Feb 2010
Elections: 23rd-30th Jan 2010
Candidate declaration deadline: 8th Jan 2009
Faction viability date: 8th Jan 2009

Please note that as of now, 12 members are needed to meet faction minimums of 10% of citizens. So far, only the DPU and the CSDF meet this minimum, although the Simplicity Party is only one short. Please, if you wish to participate in this election, have your candiates and membership up by the 8th!

Yes. Also, I would like to add that the census list time has not changed - we're still going by everyone who was a citizen at the original time. An updated census list would have to re-certified.

For faction qualification purposes and certainly the number of reps to be elected, this makes sense. However, as the constitution gives the right to vote to anyone who is a citizen 28 days prior to the election, i'm sure you don't mean to exclude those few people who this affects, correct?

On the other hand, I rather have to. A new list would require the SC to go through and re-certify it. Given the delayed nature of this election, there's a fair possibility someone could use this opportunity for fraud. (Please note I do not suspect nor am I accusing anyone of fraud; but the point is to try and have it undetected, after all.)

I disagree with your analysis, since the citizenship date announced had already passed when the election dates were changed. It may be a pain to re certify a list (though since this applies only to a few people, i'm not sure why) the interpretation you are proposing would amount, i believe, to a change to our constitution. There are procedures to do this, but i don't think it can happen simply by declaration.

Article V - Election, Term, and Office

Section 3

No citizen shall be eligible to vote in any election for public office in the Confederation of Democratic Simulators unless he or she has been a citizen for not less than 28 consecutive days immediately before any such election.
