Alpine Regional Cultural Commission Nov. 25, 09: Transcript

Post by Sonja Strom »

[12:14] Rose Springvale: i only have about a half hour before rl will demand me back...
[12:14] Rose Springvale: and am here as a resource (and resident)
[12:14] Delia Lake: sorry to take up the time. i'm mostly here now
[12:14] Sonja Strom: Shall we start the meeting?
[12:14] Rose Springvale: yes please
[12:14] Lilith Ivory: so .. any plans about events in the alpine Sims?
[12:15] Lilith Ivory: they would be a great place during the winter
[12:15] Sonja Strom: It seems to me that is what this meeting is about...
[12:16] Sonja Strom: to discuss what kind of events we would like to have in the alpine area of the CDS --
[12:16] Sonja Strom: specifically the sims of Neufreistadt, Alpine Meadow and Monastery.
[12:16] Delia Lake: there were a couple of things we did last yr that i'd like to have us repeat
[12:16] Timo Gufler: are there any RL festivals or events in alpine culture we could reproduce here?
[12:17] Delia Lake: i loved the early music concerts in the kirch
[12:17] Sonja Strom: One thing I would like to refer to is the post in the Forum that led to this meeting: http://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2550
[12:17] Lilith Ivory: in germany we use to have christmas markets
[12:17] Delia Lake: and everyone who participated in the AM skiing that Rose organized last yr has a great time
[12:17] Sonja Strom: I think those are all good ideas.
[12:18] Delia Lake: fine vby me to post
[12:18] Sonja Strom: Rose has some good ideas too,
[12:18] Rose Springvale: smiles
[12:18] Sonja Strom: and since she is short on time maybe we could ask her to share her ideas with us...
[12:18] Sonja Strom: before she has to go.
[12:19] Sonja Strom: Rose, would you like to do that?
[12:19] Delia Lake: yes
[12:19] Rose Springvale: Well, the point of these commisions is to get other people's ideas, but i can share what i've sent sonja
[12:20] Rose Springvale: I've sort of been behind lots of those ideas and am glad to follow up on some for cds wide consideration
[12:20] Rose Springvale: we've already announced a german market in guild.. not sure it will happen, but i'd love to see that
[12:20] Rose Springvale: I have been approached by Szerep.. eh
[12:21] Rose Springvale: gotta find his name, tough spelling
[12:21] Rose Springvale: who does acts that use streaming music and animations. Some of you may have seen his Flamenco show in AA last spring
[12:21] Timo Gufler: an alphorn concert would be great if there are any musicians in SL playing those instruments
[12:21] Rose Springvale: his group also does Moulin rouge, marilyn monroe, etc...
[12:22] Rose Springvale: but the one we've been looking at recently is Marlene Dietrich
[12:22] Rose Springvale: which would work well in this building
[12:22] Rose Springvale: streaming her music in both english and german
[12:22] Rose Springvale: it's pretty classy
[12:22] Lilith Ivory: sounds great
[12:22] Rose Springvale: i "think" the group will work for tips only
[12:23] Delia Lake: that sounds like fun
[12:23] Sonja Strom: yes it does
[12:23] Lilith Ivory: what is a german market btw?
[12:23] Rose Springvale: well, if you'd like to have it set up, i can do it or i can have you talk to him...
[12:23] Lilith Ivory: lol
[12:24] Rose Springvale: but we need to share the wealth of hosting events.. thats' one of the issues i have
[12:24] Rose Springvale: i could come up with CDS events every day :)
[12:24] Rose Springvale: but ... woudl never get off my computer!
[12:24] Rose Springvale: christmas market Lilith
[12:24] Lilith Ivory: ah ok
[12:24] Rose Springvale: liek where you go for hot punch :)
[12:24] Delia Lake: ah yes. they have them in chicago also in rl
[12:25] Rose Springvale: yes, i've been to that one, they actually do german markets all over the world
[12:25] Rose Springvale: i was at one in Scotland last year!
[12:25] Sonja Strom: hehee
[12:25] Rose Springvale: we'd love to have people set up to sell fun christmas things... ornaments, decor, gifts
[12:25] Lilith Ivory: hehe I did not know they are called geman markets
[12:25] Rose Springvale: you have to get out more :)
[12:25] Delia Lake: wonder if there is a musician in sl who plays on glass...........
[12:26] Rose Springvale: cindy might know
[12:26] Rose Springvale: that's sort of her field. or Naf
[12:26] Delia Lake: yes, or Naf
[12:26] Sonja Strom: Christkindlmarkt is something that happens in Colorado too.
[12:26] Rose Springvale: ah, theres the word :) thanks
[12:26] Rose Springvale: it will snow next week in CDS
[12:26] Delia Lake: next week? ok
[12:26] Lilith Ivory: I can´t wait hehe
[12:26] Rose Springvale: so hopefully we can pull that together... dec 1 is usually our date
[12:27] Lilith Ivory: I found awesome low prim winter plants lately and would be happy to do a little deco on public land
[12:27] Rose Springvale: do we want a christmas tree in the platz?
[12:27] Delia Lake: i have some also Lility
[12:27] Rose Springvale: i found old notes
[12:27] Delia Lake: yes a christmas lighting in the platz
[12:27] Rose Springvale: in the forums, where NFS used to ahve a huge tree
[12:28] Lilith Ivory: oh yes and a tree - please
[12:28] Rose Springvale: we also have all the decor moon made last year
[12:28] Delia Lake: we might be able to find a 1 prim large christmas tree also
[12:28] Rose Springvale: i dont' care if it has more prims, i want pretty lol
[12:28] Lilith Ivory: great
[12:28] Timo Gufler: christmas tree sounds great :)
[12:28] Delia Lake: yes
[12:29] Lilith Ivory: think I´ve a big low prim tree in my inventory
[12:29] Rose Springvale: shall we set up an event for tree lighting?
[12:29] Delia Lake: yes
[12:29] Lilith Ivory: a band performing x mas songs would be great
[12:30] Rose Springvale: yes, and hot punch and a market :)
[12:30] Lilith Ivory: yea
[12:30] Rose Springvale: what about other regular events in NFS, AM, monastery?
[12:31] Rose Springvale: anything you'd like to see on a weekly basis?
[12:31] Rose Springvale: Delia mentioned the early music, for December or maybe once a month?
[12:31] Sonja Strom: The Monastery always has exhibits
[12:31] Delia Lake: if it couldn't be in Dec, Jan would work
[12:32] Rose Springvale: it can be both from my pof
[12:32] Delia Lake: i'd like to have more than 1,
[12:32] Rose Springvale: pov
[12:32] Delia Lake: yes
[12:32] Rose Springvale: we have snow for a long time in CDS so something to brighten the winter would be nice
[12:33] Lilith Ivory: I always liked the story telling events
[12:33] Lilith Ivory: and they would fit to winter also
[12:33] Delia Lake: they do, yes
[12:34] Delia Lake: skating worked better in the platz than off by itself in a pavillion
[12:35] Delia Lake: maybe even a skating parade around the streets to show off decorated houses....would have to get people to decorate their houses of course
[12:35] Sonja Strom: one year there was a snowperson contest
[12:36] Timo Gufler: is it different from snowman?
[12:36] Rose Springvale: actually it was snow creature :)
[12:36] Timo Gufler: ok :)
[12:36] Sonja Strom: snow creature, yes, that's right
[12:36] Rose Springvale: and we will probably re do the owl parade, that was pretty fun, at cds level
[12:37] Rose Springvale: but if you'd rather do snow creatures, owls can wait
[12:37] Rose Springvale: sorry, i really need to go
[12:37] Sonja Strom: snow creatures and decorations could be at the CDS level I think
[12:37] Timo Gufler: owl is also a creature :)
[12:37] Lilith Ivory: see you Rose :)
[12:37] Timo Gufler: bye Rose
[12:37] Rose Springvale: if you can, please post or send me transcripts, or summaries, or whatever.
[12:37] Sonja Strom: see you Rose, thanks for coming by and participating
[12:38] Rose Springvale: and eat turkey for the americans tomorrow :)
[12:38] Lilith Ivory: read my facebook comment!
[12:38] Sonja Strom: I would like to post the transcript in the Forum, if everybody agrees to that
[12:38] Lilith Ivory: sure :)
[12:38] Rose Springvale: great :)
[12:38] Rose Springvale: bye all!
[12:38] Sonja Strom: bye!
[12:39] Delia Lake: bye rose. yes please post. other people might have more ideas
[12:39] Lilith Ivory: bye Rose
[12:39] Sonja Strom: Timo, is it okay with you?
[12:40] Timo Gufler: sorry, I was afk
[12:40] Timo Gufler: a post? sure
[12:40] Sonja Strom: okay, thanks
[12:41] Sonja Strom: Of these ideas, are there any we want to be the go-to person for?
[12:42] Sonja Strom: volunteers?
[12:43] Delia Lake: i'd like to see more than just the platz decorated and volunteer to encourage and cajole people to decorate their houses
[12:43] Timo Gufler: yes, that would be good
[12:44] Delia Lake: maybe we can make a box of free decorations for people who don't have any
[12:44] Timo Gufler: that would help those who can't make the decorations by themselves
[12:45] Delia Lake: lilith, i don't know if you would be willing but you make great clothes. might you make NFS scarves and or winter hats to put in the box too?
[12:45] Delia Lake: if it wouldn't be too much trouble
[12:46] Lilith Ivory: I will try but it´s a matter of time at the moment :)
[12:46] Delia Lake: ok
[12:46] Lilith Ivory: there is always a lot of RL work before christmas
[12:46] Lilith Ivory: but I´ve some christmas deco I could donate
[12:46] Delia Lake: cindy already has scarves. maybe she would just change the texture to a special one
[12:46] Delia Lake: ok. that would be great
[12:47] Delia Lake: if we post this other citizens might offer other gifts for the box
[12:48] Sonja Strom: It might be good for us to consider which of these cultural aspects and events could be CDS-wide and which could be specific to these 3 sims.
[12:48] Lilith Ivory: we need someone to collect the gifts
[12:48] Sonja Strom: For example, decorations, ice skating...
[12:49] Sonja Strom: I think probably there will be ice skating on the river in Colonia Nova and Locus Amoenus.
[12:49] Delia Lake: how about giving the gifts to MoCAso. I'll volunteer him for the collection and making up the box. then they won't get mixed up with any of our inventories
[12:49] Lilith Ivory: good idea :)
[12:50] Lilith Ivory: last year we had different deco for alpine and roman Sims
[12:50] Sonja Strom: Sure - I wonder if it could be a small fundraiser for the MoCA, like L$5 for the box or something like that?
[12:50] Lilith Ivory: think that makes sense
[12:51] Delia Lake: that would be very good actually
[12:51] Delia Lake: and then MoCA has storage files where things could be stored for next yr
[12:52] Lilith Ivory: great
[12:52] Timo Gufler: :)
[12:52] Delia Lake: i think a file could be set to the land group so anyone who would need the stuff could get at it
[12:53] Timo Gufler: Sonja crashed?
[12:53] Lilith Ivory: think so :(
[12:54] Lilith Ivory: sitting too long is not good for staying online hehe
[12:54] Timo Gufler: right, hehe
[12:54] Delia Lake: lol
[12:55] Delia Lake: wonder if Sonja lost the chat when she crashed
[12:55] Lilith Ivory: I can give it to her when she comes back
[12:55] Timo Gufler: it depends on her settings
[12:55] Lilith Ivory: ...if she comes back
[12:55] Delia Lake: yes
[12:55] Timo Gufler: right
[12:56] Delia Lake: i'm going to have to leave. i have a rl phone call with a work colleague in 4 min
[12:56] Lilith Ivory: see you Delia
[12:57] Timo Gufler: ok, have a nice day, Delia
[12:57] Delia Lake: bye :) good meeting. this is fun
[12:57] Timo Gufler: bye! :)
[12:57] Lilith Ivory: bye :)
[12:58] Lilith Ivory: I wonder how to find people to organize the events
[12:58] Lilith Ivory: that´s definitely not a thing I like to do most
[12:58] Timo Gufler: neither do I
[12:58] Timo Gufler: I am not a good organizer in RL either
[12:59] Lilith Ivory: hehe me neither
[12:59] Lilith Ivory: and I´m too shy to talk to people I don´t know hehe
[13:00] Lilith Ivory: Sonja had a club in SL before
[13:00] Lilith Ivory: we should try to persuade her
[13:00] Timo Gufler: for me it's hardest to talk to people I now only partially
[13:00] Timo Gufler: (don't know the right English word)
[13:01] Lilith Ivory: I understand what you mean
[13:01] Timo Gufler: yes, Sonja has experience of leading club and a CDS faction
[13:01] Lilith Ivory: yes
[13:02] Timo Gufler: but Sonja is still offline...
[13:02] Lilith Ivory: hope she is not too busy with Arosa at the moment
[13:02] Lilith Ivory: yes :(
[13:02] Lilith Ivory: I had to TP her in - she could not TP herself
[13:02] Timo Gufler: she is quite busy with Arosa, but seem to have some time for CDS also
[13:03] Lilith Ivory: so she might have a weak connection today
[13:03] Timo Gufler: I fear that... I had also a problem with SL
[13:03] Lilith Ivory: not today so far
[13:03] Timo Gufler: LL wrote in their status page that some residents were not able to log in
[13:04] Timo Gufler: right, not so far
[13:04] Lilith Ivory: lately I had to set my whole computer to PST to log in heheh
[13:05] Timo Gufler: oh no... are you living in PST time then? :)
[13:05] Lilith Ivory: not really
[13:05] Lilith Ivory: just in my mind I live in second live time
[13:05] Timo Gufler: just kidding
[13:06] Lilith Ivory: yea I know :)
[13:06] Lilith Ivory: sometimes I get confused
[13:06] Timo Gufler: welcome back, Sonja! :)
[13:06] Sonja Strom: thx
[13:06] Lilith Ivory: wb Sonja :)
[13:06] Timo Gufler: Delia had to leave
[13:06] Lilith Ivory: did you lose the chat?
[13:06] Lilith Ivory: I can give it to you
[13:07] Sonja Strom: yes, my viewer froze some time ago
[13:07] Sonja Strom: I thought it would unfreeze, but it didn't :-(
[13:07] Lilith Ivory: I know what you are talking about
[13:08] Lilith Ivory: we were just thinking about how to find somebody to organize all those events
[13:08] Sonja Strom: yes
[13:08] Sonja Strom: that is to be a part of this conversation,
[13:09] Lilith Ivory: yes
[13:09] Timo Gufler: is the purpose of this meeting to find a local event organizer instead of the PIOs?
[13:10] Sonja Strom: it seems to me like it is to come up with events we want to have only at the level of these three sims,
[13:10] Lilith Ivory: partly the purpose might be to take away work from Roses shoulders I think
[13:10] Sonja Strom: I think in part, yes
[13:11] Sonja Strom: and then also who would like to organise them,
[13:11] Sonja Strom: and how much money we would like to request for them from the Executive.
[13:11] Timo Gufler: ok, I see
[13:11] Lilith Ivory: I´ve no experience at all in organizing events
[13:12] Sonja Strom: I thought more people would be coming here than are here,
[13:12] Lilith Ivory: I miss Keila for example
[13:13] Sonja Strom: she told me maybe this time would not work for her.
[13:13] Lilith Ivory: I see
[13:13] Sonja Strom: But that she would come if she could.
[13:14] Sonja Strom: Jimmy, Arria and Ulysse said this would be a good time for them.
[13:14] Timo Gufler: indeed...
[13:14] Timo Gufler: maybe we can ask others also to organize the meetings
[13:14] Lilith Ivory: maybe next time
[13:15] Timo Gufler: those who are absent
[13:15] Sonja Strom: It's not bad for them to not be here, but for there to only be 3 of us deciding everything feels a bit awkward.
[13:15] Sonja Strom: Yeah, that could be a good idea.
[13:16] Sonja Strom: I can make a summary of our ideas and post it in the Forum,
[13:16] Lilith Ivory: great idea
[13:16] Sonja Strom: and then we could maybe talk more about them there or in a future meeting.
[13:16] Lilith Ivory: do you need my chat log?
[13:16] Sonja Strom: Yes please.
[13:16] Lilith Ivory: ok
[13:19] Sonja Strom: Thanks
[13:19] Lilith Ivory: yw
[13:19] Sonja Strom: Do we want to end this meeting here?
[13:19] Lilith Ivory: I´d be fine with that
[13:19] Timo Gufler: me too
[13:20] Sonja Strom: me too ~
[13:20] Lilith Ivory smiles

Since I see my name mentioned a few times here, thought I'd chirp in with some responses.

[12:25] Delia Lake: wonder if there is a musician in sl who plays on glass...........

No, not offhand. Will keep my ears open.

[12:46] Delia Lake: cindy already has scarves. maybe she would just change the texture to a special one

So some kind of Christmas scarf? I could do that...will mess with it today since I'm not doing Thanksgiving dinner until Saturday :-)

I'll also offer to do a Christmas concert in AM if you like -- been working on a whole lot of fun repertoire for some other gigs and would be happy to do one in my own home sim for a change :-)

Thanks Cindy! :)

I have put a wrapped box on the counter in the MoCA, just under the big white sign at the reception desk. Copiable presents may be placed into it by those in the Neufreistadt government "Landverwaltung" group. If anybody wants to contribute something to the box but is not in this group, they may send their contribution to the MoCA representative MoCAso Oh, who has volunteered to be coordinator for the Neufreistadt Holiday Box. Thanks MoCAso! :D

One of the next things on my "to do" list is to make a summary of the ideas from the meeting...

Thank you. Cindy. Scarves would be great, and a concert even better! How about a holiday sing-a-long? It might not work well with everyone singing out of time and some off key via voice chat, but it could be alot of fun and many laughs together.

Sorry I missed the meeting. Had to work 12 hours in RL. Sounds like a bunch of great ideas. Love the house decorating idea. Could be a contest and even have a snow tubing tour past them all. I have a copiable snow tube that can be used if we decide to do that. As for winter plants I have quite a few of copiable ones and also have made a bunch of 1 prim plants. If we have something for the "box", it will have to be copy and transfer , correct? That would make it essentiallly full perm. I'm sure I can mod or create something from my christmas store to add :) Love the skiing and absolutely we need a Christmas tree and Christmas music and a Christmas market ( advertised in search or classifeds to bring people to the sims) I have a bunch of stuff fI can sell :)) Another idea is a tree that the citizens can all donate an ornament to decorate it. And ice skating is great fun. I have a great winter park ( Made Winterfest Showplace search ) and is tons of fun, so stop by for some ideas too :) At work now, and almost time to go, so that's it for the moment and had already spoken to Sonja too :)

Well, our little experiment today demonstrated that singing along is good for about one song. Lag in voice is no problem for chat, but you really notice it in music!

Here is a summary of what was talked about in the meeting. :)

Those present: Delia Lake, Lilith Ivory, Rose Springvale, Sonja Strom, Timo Gufler.

This meeting was about cultural events in the alpine sims of Neufreistadt, Alpine Meadow and Monastery: ideas for events, who might sponsor them, and how much they might cost.

Snow is to come to these sims on or around December 1st.

Events that have taken place in the past could be repeated, including:
 Early music concerts in the NFS Kirche.
 Storytelling.
 Skiing on Alpine Meadow, which could this year include Monastery.
 Coordinating with exhibits in the Monastery.
 Ice skating on the NFS Marktplatz, which is better than having it off by itself somewhere. Ice skating could also be available on the river in Colonia Nova and Locus Amoenus.
 Having a Christmas tree on the NFS Marktplatz. There could also be holiday decorations, including décor that Moon made last year and having colorful lights. There could even be a party for the tree lighting.
 People could be encouraged to decorate their houses, and there could be a parade around the streets to show off decorated houses.
 A snow-creature contest.

New ideas:
 A German Christmas market (Christkindlmarkt), which could provide hot punch and allow people to set up and sell fun christmas things, like ornaments, decor, gifts.
 Music could include a band performing xmas songs, alphorn musicians, a musician in sl who plays on glass. There could maybe even be a sing-along. Possibly Cindy Ecksol and Naftali Torok could help with this.
 Rose Springvale has been in contact with a group that is putting on a Marlene Dietrich show. Possibly they could perform in the NFS Biergarten.
 A box of free decorations could be put together and made available. It could also include other presents. The MoCA in NFS could be a good place to organize this. It could even be a small fundraiser for the Museum.

Some of these ideas and events could be coordinated CDS-wide.

Rose would like help with events.

If we have another meeting it could be organized to include people who were not in this one.

Thanks for all your good work here Sonja and committe members. Just a reminder.. these events are all regional commission ideas. While we can do some things at the CDS level, and will, things your group comes up with need to be presented to the chancellor for budget approval, and they need to have staff to run them. One of the ideas here was to decentralize them. I will GIVE help with them, and do what i can to make them successful, but i don't need more things to be in charge of.

Just to clarify :)

Things that we will handle at CDS level will be coordination of sim decor and snow. We will also have some sort of holiday party. Personally i'm working with Callipygian Christensen to hold an opening of the new art enclave with a Winter Holiday theme in mid december and some other folks to get the opera house up and running, but that's privately funded, not from the CDS coffers. These commissions are ways the individual regions can be involved in the events that happen in their sims.. i'm sure you are all tired of my ideas!

Thanks for the clarification, Rose. I had not realised that was the plan, but now I understand better.

I would also like to clarify that the summary I posted is a condensation of the conversation in the meeting (posted in full in the transcript). Since the meeting I have placed a wrapped box in the MoCA for donations of decorations and other holiday items - please see my second post above.
Since the meeting Cindy has also worked on trying to organise some kind of sing-along, but so far the tests have not gone very well - please also see her second post above.

Just ran across this account of an "art walk" in another community: http://mariko-nightfire.blogspot.com/20 ... 14-to.html

Don't know if anyone on any of the commissions is thinking about anything like this, but it sure does look like fun.
