At yesterday's RA meeting I was asked to find the rules on 7 day votes for RA members. Despite searching the RA rules of procedure, the Code of Laws and the CDS Constitution (and enlisting Gwyn's help with searching) I have not been able to find where the rules on this are set out! I think we should amend the RA rules of procedure to make it clear what is permitted so there is no confusion about this.
7 day votes have been a feature of RA meetings for as long as I can recall (certainly since 2005). If an RA member cannot make a meeting they have been able to ask the LRA that they cast their vote on any issues taken to a vote within 7 days of the meeting being held. This is helpful if, for example, there is an important vote on a bill or constitutional amendment scheduled for the meeting but one or more members cannot attend the meeting. Every RA member has the chance to vote and is not disenfranchised because, for example, they have a RL commitment they cannot reschedule.
Perhaps we could work up an amendment to the rules of procedure on these forums and then vote on it at the next formal RA meeting on 21 March?
