Another attempt to set up a Chamber of Commerce in SL

Post by Gwyneth Llewelyn »

Dear all,

Later today (at 7 PM SL time), a new resident called Chili Carson will start up a Chamber of Commerce in Second Life. She gave a speech at the SLCC and an interview to C|Net's Daniel Terdiman. Apparently she "moved the masses" at the SLCC, since she brings her professional know-how as an accountant to set these things up, made a big show out of it, and has lots of backing — from the media, from the Lindens, and very likely from the FIC as well. Thus, she might succeed where so many have failed (from the RATE group, to the SL Better Business Bureau, the Metaverse Justice Watch, and so many others... there are lots of tiny ones as well, local business associations, etc).

The interesting thing about Chili Carson is the (mostly RL) support she has for this inciative of hers!

I'd think it would be nice for some of us to be at her discussion meeting :) Sadly, it's way too late for me to attend, but I'm sure we can find a few of us willing to be there. One thing we can provide is our feedback: a Chamber of Commerce is easy to set up if you have a legal system backing it up. But the jurisdiction is very limited. By contrast, a SL-wide Chamber of Commerce, sitting "in a vacuum", is way hard to set up, although, as said, it might be "SL-wide".

It is very possible that I can at least attend as a listening ear. Such times are more suitable for me most times

Thanks to all of you! The organisation is somehow already informed that some of us Neufreistadters will be around... I think that Jon Seattle might be able to be there as well...

As a side note, Poinky Malaprop (who is with the organisation of this event today) will probably set one up for Neufreistadt specifically...
