ok, so, who's next?

Post by solomon mosely »

here we are a couple weeks from the start of a new term. anyone known to be interested in chancellor? is anyone who's interested in being chancellor preparing a budget, a plan, a team?

i know i would be very inclined to vote for someone (if i'm elected to ra), who showed up with a plan ready and a budget set to propose.

do we have to wait till one is elected before anyone starts planning?

it's only a 6 month term.

from the Constitution,Section 5 - Chancellor Selection Process

The Chancellor of the CDS shall be selected by the Representative Assembly from among any CDS citizen who shall make application to the RA.

The application period shall begin when the membership of a new RA is named and end the first day of the new RA term. This provision shall come into force with the next RA election following passage and ratification of this amendment. (ed. note: the Seventh RA)

Hi Solomon,

One of the many things I like about our community, is that it's not characterised by a chafing for prestige or for high-status posts.

But maybe there's something I'm not seeing ... :)

hmmm... sorry. pardon my (mis)use of adjectives or sarcasm. i was simply expressing a hope that a potential chancellor would be a more responsible and ambitious person than i, and would have started doing their homework prior to the night before it was due. I had meant to express how impressed, i personally would be, to see a perspective chancellor come to that first meeting with at least a rough outline for a budget, a list of names and a plan for their teams to assist with land, pio, finance, etc...
of course, i may not like their plans or staff picks, and if i were ra, may not vote for them. they could just be better off standing up before the ra and saying the right, vague, statements about valuing the creativity and diversity in cds and respecting the democracy and the people's voice above all all things and promising to serve dutifully, and let it essentially be a popularity contest. however, who really wants that?
i think the chancellor has a lot of responsibility, compared to almost every other post in cds, and i personally would be very impressed to see someone come in ready to hit the ground running. especially given how long things can take in cds, and that they only have 6 months to do anything. PLUS, the fact that this is one of the more tumultuous times in recent cds history and there is very little existing structure to pick up from. the new chancellor will be starting from scratch on most of their assigned duties.
but no pip, i dont see much prestige in being mayor of a virtual town. unless that town was doing really unique and progressive things that made it a model, recognized globally for it's contributions. any prestige it may hold would have to be hard earned or well imagined. i hadnt expected any response to my post. my questions were rhetorical, i didnt propose anything or make any accusations. if anything, i expected to hear that i was expecting too much from a volunteer position, which i am. but what the heck, i'll shoot for the stars and be happy with the moon.

Here's a piece of the pie: http://forums.slcds.info/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2890

Even if nobody declaring for Chancellor is up for your challenge, Sol - I'd like to see all of us with a particular area of concern or expertise step up with a plan for their area. Finance, land use/sim development, internal operations - all these need addressing *now.* I've put forward one for comms/marketing, and I'd like to see some more of us follow suit.

It doesn't matter who the proposals come from, whether Chancellor candidates, RA members, or anybody with a set of good ideas: we need to get plans on the table now.
