CDS Facebook page has a short URL now

I am pleased to announce that the CDS Facebook page has more than 25 fans: this allowed us to select a short URL easier to promote. The new URL is:

I understand the people who want to protect their privacy in Facebook. I did not expect that every citizen would become a fan of the page. It's great that some do, so we can use also as one of our information channels, especially for events. An other goal of this page is the promotion of CDS through the Facebook community. Every fan of the page can help us by inviting their friends to join. I remind you also that every fan can post on the page and add pictures. There are already 40 pictures.

I'm a bit concerned that there seems to be an effort to leave out events in our sims... Joaquin's concerts, which happen every Friday night, have never made it to the FB or twitter page, Feria was completely ignored by our official channels, and even though we held a really successful contest covering ALL the CDS sims, the Grand Tour events we did last weekend don't show up anyplace in these "official" spaces. Kas has also had a party every month since she's been a citizen, Jayme holds writing events at Fugit Hora every week.. usually twice a week, and JAM is trying really hard to get the library working.

I truly hope that we are able to elect a chancellor who will fill the positions that we need in CDS so that the efforts that ALL of our citizens are making to promote and make CDS a good place to live will get the coverage they deserve. In the meantime, would it be so hard to add the events these people put their time and money into?

I understand your concern. The easiest way now would be to give administrator rights to people who organize regular events, if they have a FB account. It would necessary to have an editorial charter.
If someone wants to get the admin rights for FB, please IM me.
I will make sure new items in FB come automatically in Twitter.

I think what everyone needs to realize is that personal privacy is becoming obsolete. That may save us, if there is any saving left.

I know I am in the minority, but the privacy issues don't bother me. I'm pretty much the same in RL as in SL, and as a small business owner, anyone can search me out and get anything they want. Don't look for the money though, i've spent it alllll (just look at my shoe wardrobe!)

I'm more concerned that people who are not deeply experienced in SL, like most of the people doing events on their own in CDS these days, would need to handle this part, too. We really need to be supporting their efforts, not making it harder for them. When someone is handling scheduling, musicians, preparation, set up, etc, posting notices is just one more thing and easy to just miss. Let's work hard to find someone, or more than one person, willing to do this. Volunteers are a precious commodity, and burn out is a huge risk. I also believe that CDS should support these events with our funding... but that's a different issue.

Dunno if this is a FB hiccup, or settings accidentally got changed - but it looks like the ability to post fan photos on the CDS page has been turned off?

Sorry you ran into that problem, Kaseido. I looked at the CDS Facebook page's setting for allowing people to post photos to it, and it is set to allow anyone to add photos.
I tried to upload a photo and was able to - - except it wanted me to download a piece of software to upload pictures that I chose not to do.

Still disabled for me - have you set it to owners only?

And you can upload photos without the Flash plugin - that just makes it a bit faster for bulk uploads.

there are tools that allow for posting to multiple applications like FB, twit, google calendar, all from our website, or form one place, like ping.fm for instance. we'll need some hours from our web team (person), but we can simplify the process of announcements from first announcement to pre-show across our networks.
i know of a few, i'm sure we must have some other web marketing folks who know some tools. we can make this easy.
as for who posts and when, we should also be able to work out, between a PIO team and venues, who does what, when. pre-show posts could could be handled by the venue if PIO isnt around at a particular start time.
as far as making that part eaiser, gwen, is your ping.fm hud still good? i could only find yours and one other for in-world ping tools. do you know of any newer/different versions? this could be a great tool for our people to be using. or did this come up and get shot down, a year ago when you released it, and i didnt notice?

Kaseido, to test the CDS Facebook page I have created a new Facebook account for my alt Nikki Maertens. With no permissions at all Nikki was able to post a photo to the CDS Facebook page, a texture of the CDS flag. Thank you for letting me know I can upload photos without the plugin.

Solomon, thank you for your suggestions! I agree with you, and will help to see if we can make these ideas work for us.
