SL TOS as interpreted in Newcomer packs (just an fyi)

Post by Bagheera »

I thought this might warrant mentioning, since people here seem to lean so heavily on an interpretation of the SL TOS for passing on and posting in world chats and IMs.

The "general" interpretation of the limitation on in-world chat and IM is that it cannot be reposted in-world or on the Second Life forums - however it can be shared via regular email, in conversations or any other method that is not under the control of Linden Labs.

This is not MY interpretation. It is the interpretation as broken out on notecards given to newbies through numerous Second Life Newbie/Welcome packs.

So, a few thoughts:

1) If you are leaning heavily on the CDS interpretation of the SL TOS (which is that in world chats and IMs cannot be divulged EVER by ANY means), you may be in for a rude shock. Even if you decide to argue your case, IF the CDS is to expand, it will expand by bringing in newcomers to SL - newcomers which have already been indoctrinated (! laughing at my choice of word here) by the Second Life Newbie/Welcome packs.

2) Since the CDS is not a forum under the control of Linden Labs, it is, be definition, outside the scope of the SL TOS limitations on divulging in world chat and IMs.

By the way, a LOT of you have gone out of your way to ask me to stay in CDS, which has profoundly touched and moved me! I originally came here as part of the Aesth group, as you know, and all my friends from that group have moved on to other adventures outside CDS. I am hoping to find a way to divide my time between the two of you, and my plans are still in flux - at present, until I sort out what I'm doing and how to manage my time, I'll still be around but not as active. Love you all.
