Covenant Review

Post by Rose Springvale »

Several terms ago, I went through all the CDS covenants because they were inconsistent, and we were spending a lot of time explaining things that should have been easy to find on our land tabs to both old and new citizens. (For example, some didn't realize there were ownership limitations, new avatars often thought there was no obligation to pay tier once they had purchased land (check, or covenants don't mention it!) and at the time, the NFS covenant tab only pointed to a website we were no longer using. We are long overdue for covenant review, and as we consider new land, it makes sense to begin the process of updating the existing ones.

Rather than recreate the wheel, I have opened the documents from that review. Moon went through these at the time, and while there are no comments, I believe Sudane Erato and Jamie Palisades did as well.... they always had access to the documents. Clearly a couple of things have changed since this review, (i understand there is something posted in NFS now) but this is a starting place for discussion. Hopefully the end result will be legislation for covenant update prior to the end of the term, or purchase of new sims, if any.

The CDS General Covenant document is here: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AQER ... y=CJf06d0I

NFS specific Document here: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AQER ... y=CJfDnpIO

Colonia Nova: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AQER ... y=CLeLyKAE

Alpine Meadow: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AQER ... y=COz74ZwH

Locus Amoenus: https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AQER ... y=CLfrg8IP

NB: At the time of this review, there were no covenants for the Monastery. The covenants in place there now are temporary, and they should also be reviewed, made consistent with the rest of the estate, and finalized.

... so I'll start the discussion (Are we all high from our Oktoberfest shenanigans that we apparently are not looking at the nuts and bolts of the covenants? )

Starting with the minimum height of sky-bourne objects? ....

WHY, OH WHY 512 ???

Yes, my own life has revolved around computing issues since 1963, but I look around at the number of fingers and the number of toes that most of us are blessed with ... and, d'you know what? ... I've come to the conclusion that humans are, by and large, incorrigeably decimal in their outlook!

Bit-counting carried to an absurdly parsimonious degree, perhaps?

Or maybe a device to see whether we're actually reading the draft amendments?!

Please tell ... this enquiring mind would love to know!

512 m is the distance visible from the ground in sl.

Also, objects rezzed below 512 m will show on the map.
