I think that this is a thorny problem. I agree that lowering tier will not, by itself, increase occupancy. However, I am also certain that having an disproportionately high tier will retard our other, necessary efforts to increase occupancy and dissuade people who might otherwise join us.

I think we need to change the focus of the discussion to revenue replacement. Reduce tier and then find an alternative source to make up the lost revenue, spreading and diversifying our revenue stream.

Let's keep things simple enough to be fair, substantive enough to be effective, and insightful enough to be good.

Just wanted to point out for any who have not noticed, we are now using a tip jar at our public events. During Floralia, we did bring in about $L1600.00. Not a lot, but something to defray the cost of events. As most who follow acts really have no interest in joining our community, I welcome at least some contribution toward hosting the musician they follow. It is also another opportunity to put our name in front of people attending the event.

That's great Tor, the tip jars for host sims are really expected by people when they attend an event. Also having a tip jar placed centrally in each sim is a good idea that has been recently realized, and although they may not bring in a lot, every little bit helps - and raising awareness of the group is worth it in itself.

Back to the topic of tier rates and whether or not it matters to new arrivals; I do think it matters. We need to remain competitive to other community sims. It alone will not bring new members though - I come again to the need for reaching out to other community-minded groups.
