Oktoberfest 2011

Post by Trebor Warcliffe »

Hard to believe it has been almost a year since Oktoberfest 2010 in the C.D.S. Looking at the current itinerary I think we’re going to have an awesome event. As the current Commerce Coordinator it is one of my duties to handle the commercial aspect of our event. There are a few things I need to cover and as always I welcome any and all feedback, opinions, thoughts and ideas. I will be travelling to California from Sept. 11th until Sept. 18th so my online activity will be sporadic during that time. My email is [email protected]

I loved the set-up of the Platz in NFS during last year’s Oktoberfest. Is it possible to set the Platz up the same way as last year and if so who do I need to contact to help me with this? I also need to know how many stalls will be available. I browsed the forums for last year but was unable to find this information. Here are a couple of ideas I’ve been working on.

Obviously our CDS citizens have first choice for the market stalls in the Platz. I’d like to have these stalls with non-art related merchandise. It’s my understanding that besides the CDS being Second Life’s oldest democracy it is also supposed to be an estate that promotes the arts.

One of the things I’d like to do with Oktoberfest is to highlight the artistic works of our various residents, I’m thinking of calling the exhibit “The Artists of the CDS.” I’d like an open field where the artists can display and sell their works of art. If anyone can provide me with the various artists in our community so I can reach out to them, or if you are an artist in CDS and would like to participate please let me know. One thing I am contemplating is, do I give this opportunity to CDS citizens only or should I extend the offer to any of the CDS group members? I guess that will depend on the feedback I receive from the citizens.

I’ve also been in talks with Delia about volunteering some of my time to procuring new exhibits for the MoCA. In one conversation she has been a wealth of information for me explaining the differences between a gallery and a museum, what to look for in various types of “art.” We’re hoping to have a new exhibit ready for Oktoberfest, another great feature of the event if we can pull it off. After the first new exhibit I’m not sure what type of timeframe to bring in new exhibits. In the beginning I think quarterly would be more realistic than monthly. I’d rather take a little longer and get it right than do a rush job on something and have it turn out half assed.

So for now let me know if you’re interested in a stall on the Platz and if you’d like to participate in “The Artists of the CDS” exhibit. I’m thinking of having the exhibit in Alpine Meadows I just haven’t worked on the particulars yet. Also any information about the other things discussed in the post would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Trebor

Hi Trebor,

I made the infrastructure items for the Oktoberfest last year, and have them nice and tidy in my inventory. Just let me know when you want them put out and I can easily oblige. I've already mentioned this to Tor.

For the other items, my vote goes to:
Stalls - CDS citizens first choice, CDS group members second choice, and then friends of CDS citizens 3rd choice for selling items. I would add one thought though - that non-citizens who have stalls do not have the same items for sale that CDS citizens have for sale (i.e. if Lilith has her dirndls there, then no non-citizens selling dirndls.) It might be a good idea to ask each person what they will sell to avoid this conflict. I think it is only fair, as the citizens are the ones that keep the CDS going and should benefit from the market first.

Art items - same as the stalls!

MoCa - that is FANTASTIC news and I'm thrilled to hear it! If you need any help let me know. I also offered to assist Delia some months back, but it wasn't a good time for her and I didn't follow up on it.

Thank you Trebor for organizing the booths and other exhibitions for Oktoberfest. I am really happy to hear that the MOCa will have a new exhibition.
As usual, I am interested to have a booth for the Monastery.

Thank you Trebor and Delia,

It's great to hear that you are planning on new exhibits for MoCA and it would be especially nice if there was a new one up in time for Oktoberfest

To all my fellow CDS group members:

Oktoberfest is fast approaching and as the Commerce Coordinator I’ve been tasked with the commercial aspect of the event. I’m sending a group notice because I haven’t received much of a response in the forums.

The Artists of the CDS will be an exhibit highlighting the artistic works of the members of our community. The exhibit will be in an open field, exact location yet to be determined. Artists will be able to showcase and sell their works of art. I need to know, as soon as possible, who would like to participate in this exhibit and the type of art that will be displayed. Please respond either here or by emailing me at [email protected]

The Marketplace at the Platz will be set-up once again this year. If we have more merchants than available stalls I will explore the possibility of setting up a second marketplace elsewhere within our community. In regards to stalls, CDS citizens have first choice with CDS group members having second choice and friends of CDS citizen’s third choice. Merchants who are CDS citizens, i.e. tier paying members of our community, will have exclusive rights on the merchandise they are selling. In order to accomplish this I need to know the merchants who would like a stall and the merchandise they will be selling.

Let us move away from all of the "us" and "them" and turn our attention to "we."

Hi Trebor

Thank you for organizing this. I would like to have a stall to sell my dirndl and bavarian leather pants.
