This will be the first term in the CDS where we work with government subsidized citizen events. An event can be described as a public assembly for the purpose of celebration, education, marketing or reunion. Events can be classified on the basis of their size, type, and context.
An event can be:
1) Social/life-cycle events
2) Education and career events
3) Sports events
4) Entertainment events
5) Political events
6) Corporate events
7) Religious events
Fund raising/cause related events

There are many reasons for holding events in the CDS. I feel one important reason is to get the word out about the CDS to the greater Second Life community. Subsidies can consist of use of public lands and/or financial assistance. Below are some guidelines for what is expected from the receiver of assistance.
• The CDS is a mature rated community, not an adult rated community. Therefore no events can be of an adult/sexual nature.
• The event must be open to any and all individuals, absolutely no discrimination
• The event should be advertised on the Second Life Events Calendar
• A small area must be set aside at the venue for CDS promotional material. These materials will be provided by the government and may consist of items such as an informational “About the CDS” note card and a small sign promoting the CDS group such as “Become a Friend of the CDS” join our group by clicking here.
The subsidy of events is open to any and all citizens. If a citizen is only looking for a public venue to host an event without any financial assistance than in my opinion it is just a matter of making sure the venue is available at that time and providing the host or hostess with access to set-up their event. In this instance I would just require a simple description of the event.
For financial assistance a little more work is involved. I’d like a detailed explanation of the event, whether or not the event needs a public venue, an expense list along with how much the citizen will be covering and how much financial assistance they are looking for. Any additional information would be appreciated. If you are having a featured performer at your event, some info on them would be helpful. How popular are they in SL? Do they have a group linked to their performance work and if so how many members?
The government’s goal is to get the most for their money. Where the government may only have the resources to host one or two events a month, citizens also hosting events of their own that help to promote the CDS may increase events two or three times that amount each month.
I know the topic of how we measure the success of these events will come up for discussion, as it should. I welcome some input on this topic. I’ve been to places in SL that are equipped with a welcome mat that actually greets the visitor by name. I’ve experienced the same effect through direct teleportation. I’m assuming these devices probably keep track of the amount of visitors, whether it’s a new visitor or a repeat visitor, and possibly even a log of the name of the visitor. This type of information would allow us to tailor our marketing strategies in specific ways.
So I’d like to take this time to schedule some events for the month of January. Even if you are hosting an event on your own without government assistance, you are more than welcome to make either Tor or me aware of this. This will help address potential scheduling conflicts with other events. You may submit your request here on the forums, by note card in-world or by email. My email is [email protected] and Tor’s email is [email protected]
Thank you,
