Declaration of non-candidacy

Post by Patroklus Murakami »

The deadline for declaring candidacy in the forthcoming elections is approaching. I'm declaring that I don't intend to stand in the next set of elections. I've really enjoyed working on the Representative Assembly one more time and I'm grateful for the chance to do that. I've been impressed with the (mostly) collaborative atmosphere on the RA and in the CDS at this time. I've had the opportunity to implement some reforms which I think will prove to be valuable.

So, why not stand again? Well, I think that, on balance, it's better if our representatives spend more time in world than I am currently able to. I manage to attend virtually all RA meetings and pop in world from time to time but I'm no longer very active in Second Life. I hope that others will come forward and that we have a competitive election for the next RA. I would encourage anyone thinking about it to do so. It's a good way to give something back to the community: our volunteers ensure that our experiment in virtual world self-governance survives.

That's too bad to hear Pat, but I understand. It was great working with you on the RA!

This was my second time in a row on the RA, which makes me ineligible to run again. I echo Pat's encouragement for people to step forward and run for election. Don't be shy now. :)

Too bad Pat. We'll miss you.

I am planning to run again and have sent my notice to the Dean.

Let's keep things simple enough to be fair, substantive enough to be effective, and insightful enough to be good.

I am sorry to hear that, Pat ... it was a pleasure working with you. You did good work with those reforms.
