Deadlines for upcoming elections

Post by Lilith Ivory »

Hello all CDS citizens

This is a reminder about the deadlines for the elections of the 18th Representative Assembly as approved by the SC on sunday July 1 2012.

The Qualification deadline to run for office : is already at12 noon SLT October 2 (census generated on this date by Sudane)
Qualification deadline for right to vote: 12 noon SLT October 12 (census generated on this date by Sudane)

Please make sure you are in good standing for at least one parcel at this time. Also at least one parcel parcel in good standing needs to show you as land owner and is not deeded to any group.

More info about the upcoming elections can be found here:

The first qualifying census, for qualifying to run for office, is scheduled for October 2nd, this Tuesday. To get ready for this, I dusted off my notes for taking the necessary steps, and decided to run a test census, yesterday. This would just remind people what it looked like, and, incidentally, enable people who found themselves in an unexpected state of qualification, to have a few days to remedy that.

The key issues which the census is intended to determine:

1) Only people who both own a parcel of land in their own name, AND, are current in their tier at a Hippo box, are qualified. Both conditions must be met.

2) Only the first person named by the Hippo box is qualified (the "tenant"). If there is a second person (the "partner"), that person is not qualified, but must instead have another Hippo box where they are in fact the "tenant".

3) You must be current in your tier at at least one Hippo box. Being in arrears at other Hippo boxes does not disqualify you. In addition, our system does not now distinguish whether the Hippo box at which you are current is in fact a Hippo box attached to a parcel you own. Maybe some day in the future we can achieve that linkage.

I ran a test census yesterday. Here is the result. Please note that anyone with a blank space in the Notes column (in other words, has no Notes), is according to this census qualified.

Yay, I'm a "duplicated Gwyn" :)

Just to clarify: Maria Gherardi is a good friend of mine who used to design clothes. Since she's been too busy with her own PhD to continue to regularly come back to SL, I sort of allowed her to keep her clothes for sale on my (formerly empty) shop in NFS, for free. She's not really a "citizen" or interested in CDS (even though she has nothing against our community, of course :) ), so I'm pretty sure she's not interested in running for anything...

Gwyn, she's the "second person" in the name list, therefore technically a "partner". And therefore not eligible anyway. Since you are the first person in the list, AND you are also the person named by yourself on other Hippo boxes, this is a duplicate of "Gwyn". The "unique" computer command, when applied to a list, is dumb enough not to see that you are already listed elsewhere, albeit without the "partner".

*shrug*... computers! Why can't we teach them to be smart!? :)
