Upcoming Declarations

Post by Trebor Warcliffe »

The deadline for declaring ones candidacy for a seat on the 18th Representative Assembly and Chancellorship is fast approaching; October 31st at noon. I don’t know why it is but it seems to me that every time the elections come around everyone waits until the last minute to let their intentions known. This has lead to some people not standing for elections because they assumed someone else was or wasn’t running. So I will take the first step in this upcoming election and declare my intention to NOT run for a third term as Chancellor or any other elected position in the CDS.

It is not out of a lack of desire that I’ve made this decision. It has been made based on knowing that my available time to dedicate to SL and specifically the CDS is about to change by a good amount. I will continue in my position as Assistant Treasurer.

I will run again for RA. :)
I'm hoping to be better at it this time round. This was a new experience for me, but I am enjoying it!

Treb, thanks for all your hard work in the last year. Your energy and work to make CDS a first class SL experience is unmatched. And guess what, you still have a month and a half before you can retire to the beach.

Like Trebor, I am announcing my non-candidacy due to emerging RL time constraints. That applies both to RA and to the Chancellorship.

I hope to have more time again soon.

Thanks for your outstanding work, Trebor!

I seriously suspect I will regret this, but, fearing there might not be enough candidates for the RA on the upcoming elections, I'll announce my candidacy — much against my own previous decision not to do so and give newer citizens the opportunity to get elected and change the CDS according to our current needs and views (and not according to ancient prejudiced and biased opinions from the likes of myself) — even though I seriously suspect that my eventual participation will be irregular.

And I reserve the right to remove my candidacy if I see that by October 31st we have plenty of people to choose from :-)

Thank you, Trebor, esp for continuing in the assistant treasurer role, which is connected to one of your best achievements imo: the tier system reform. Good to know that you will go on to keep an eye on it. The next chancellor will surely be happy to inherit the new system and an able executive to welcome in his/her team, and I really hope the next Representative Assembly will carefully listen to your expertise, just as the current RA still does.

And yes, it is true, I was about to wait and see who is going to run. But you made me change my mind. We need an RA, and we need plenty of candidates to choose from. Any citizen should be able to take up this role right away, no special qualifications needed but a minimum of interest and time.

So, I announce my declaration of candidacy by notecard to the Dean within the next days. We are the CDS, unique within SL, and the RA is its core. Declare, people, declare. This ought to be fun!

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words as I'm getting ready to serve my last month as Chancellor of the CDS for this term. It's been over a week since I've been in the forums and was a little overwhelmed from all the kind words and just wanted to say thank you. :D

Reminder to all CDS citizens, according to our census the next Representative Assembly should have 5 elected representatives. The deadline for declaring is Wednesday, 31 October at midnight SLT. So far we do not have 5 declared candidates. Unless we have more than 5 declared RA candidates we technically cannot actually hold an election. So much for the negative. On the positive side I encourage my fellow citizens, and especially those who have not yet held public office in the CDS, to seriously consider becoming part of our government. The CDS is unique in virtual space in many ways and especially in that we are a self-governing democracy with longevity as we are now 8 years old! This is quite an achievement. Over these years, many different citizens have stepped up to take their turn as part of our government. If you have not or have not for a while, I encourage you to seriously consider putting yourself forth as a candidate for our RA. Our government only works if we all work to make it happen.

thanks for reading,
Delia

So Delia you are saying there should not be an election? Were does it state that the candidates must equal the available positions? You do understand that when the current RA term runs out there will be no government?

Article 1, Section 2

The number of representative seats in the RA is equal to five.
[.....]
Vacancies in RA positions will be filled by by-election administered on a schedule set by the Scientific Council consistent with other applicable CDS law.

I did not read anything that pertains to the circumstances which arise from lack of candidates.
