It's my understanding that if there aren't more candidates than the number of seats, that the declared candidates would become official by acclamation.

Trebor you should be proud of the chancellor you grew into, I will admit to having doubts in the beginning but your dedication and sheer hard work gained my admiration and respect ... you have been good for CDS!... I'm also glad to have you as a friend Treb ... we'll always have Anzere! lmao ..

Ms Llewelyn, did you have the guts to miss the deadline for throwing notecards at our guardians?

Re: Upcoming Declarations
CDS Constitution
ARTICLE I – The Representative Branch
Section 2 – The Representative Assembly Body
Representative seats are chosen by popular election, from among those candidates who qualify under the rules set forth here. Any citizen who is eligible to vote, at the time of nomination, may become a candidate by declaring themselves by a message to the Dean of the Scientific Council, within the time set by the Scientific Council for such nominations.
The number of representative seats in the RA is equal to five.
In each RA election, voters shall select from among the candidates using Single Transferable Voting (a ranked voting method). (my italics)
It is in our Constitution that the method we use is to select our RA is Single Transferable Voting (STV). It is a ranked voting method that eliminates candidates sequentially. If there are fewer candidates than seats to be filled--in this case 5 RA seats--STV cannot eliminate candidates and therefore does not run. If we have 5 or less candidates for RA, all will take office by acclaimation. There will be no casting of votes as they cannot be processed under STV with fewer candidates than seats available. This has happened once before and came close other times.
At a later date the CDS would have to hold a by-election to fill the remaining available RA seat(s).

Re: Upcoming Declarations
Thanks for the clarification, Delia. I see the 18th RA would prospectly be able to cast a 2/3 vote (4 of 5) as soon as the members are acclaimed. What is your view on this? And will we stick to the scheduled dates including campaign 12-11-02 to 12-11-17 so that the inaugural RA meeting can hopefully take place on 12-11-24?
((Premature remark, I followed your recommendation to take notice of a broader discussion concerning SC reform and would like to engage on some agreement in December before you retreat from office as already announced. We do not want the good work lost, right?))
