PCA : Voting

Post by Claude Desmoulins »

Ashcroft has submitted a proposed constituional amendement on voting. I don't have access to the exact wording but wanted to get it onto the forums to encourage discussion.

The proposed amendment would require that any person voting in a CDS election have been a citizen for at least 28 consecutive days prior to the beginning of the election.

I hope Ashcroft will correct me if I have in some way misrepresented the intent of his proposal.

Here is the bill that I submitted on a notecard to the last meeting of the RA:

[b:2xi14p1r]Voting Amendment Bill[/b:2xi14p1r]

1. The following shall be inserted after Article V, Section 2 of the Constitution:

***

3. No citizen shall be eligable to vote in any election for public office in the Confederation of Democratic Simulators unless he or she has been a citizen for not less than 28 consecutive days immediately before any such election.

I suppose this is in reference to the concerns over the microplots?

Personally, I view this time period as far too long given the time scale in SL. If we truly felt the need for such measures we could perhaps make it 14 or two weeks, but four weeks time seems excessive.

I agree with Ashcroft San for once, people brought into Neufreistadt solely for the purpose of voting influenced the last election. Their influence on the faction rankings would of been even more profound and I have no doubts it changed the results. No 28 days is not unreasonable at all for a matter of such importance.

I also agree with Ashcroft and Ranma and respectfully disagree with Ranma San's reasons for agreeing with Ashcroft. :)
