Yes, thanks, Diderot, we are in the process of getting rid of the redirects by assigning a DNS directly to Aliasi's server. She needs still to do some magic configuration at her side, so link directly to [url=http://aliasi.us/nburgwiki:1uabagzl]http://aliasi.us/nburgwiki[/url:1uabagzl] instead.

You might have noticed that since yesterday the link here at the top of the forums as well as the link on our homepage are indeed going to that alternative URL instead.

Sorry about the mess. Hopefully Aliasi will have some time free to make the appropriate changes as soon as possible, but since having found out that most of the people go to the Wiki through the homepage, they will get properly redirected :)

Woohoo! Thanks! :-)

At the moment though it's still "Host Name Lookup Failed" for me.

Could anyone enlighten me as to whether my inability to access the wiki at present is because it is down or due to the usual DNS problems that I experience?

It would be as simple as looking up wiki.neufreistadt.info in your browser and tell me whether your result is success or failure.

Thanks!

Thank you, Ashcroft. It must be the usual inability of my ISP to resolve domain names under the .us TLD then.

Now (13.24 GMT) I can access the wiki via wiki.neufreistadt.info without problems.

Thanks for the feedback, Fernando. I guess it must be a problem I have to take up with my local (unresponsive) ISP :-)

Hmm, the issue about the "aliasi.us" domain is sadly not restricted to you, Diderot. Others have reported similar issues. I have tried to point the domain directly to Aliasi's site, but she dutyfully reminded me that this is an "unofficial" site and it should be clearly labeled as such :)

I might try to get a way to export the articles from Aliasi's site and have a backup of them elsewhere... I'll have to play around with the settings to understand if this is possible at all!

It just occurred to me that my difficulties in accessing the aliasi.us wiki cannot have anything to do with a general problem of TLD DNS resolution considering that I use del.icio.us and have never had any problems accessing their site from anywhere.

It may be the specific registrar I use. All I know is I've never had any problems except, very occasionally, I'll get a 'site not found' that goes away when I refresh.

http://208.101.22.58/~aliasi4/nburgwiki/tiki-index.php is the direct way to get to it, no DNS required. If that fouls up, then there's some hiccup between you and my webserver, and nothing I can do about it.

Reading over the most recent RA transcript, I'd like to add I would be extremely happy to shove the work onto someone else... er... I mean, assist the CDS in mirroring the current content on an official wiki. I'd only ever intended my wiki to be a 'temporary' solution, back when things looked so uncertain right after the Neufreistadt name-change.

The sites I happen to host are also just meant to be 'temporary', actually :)

I tried to make a "quick and dirty" mirror of the Wiki, however, that didn't work so well (mostly because of the links). I guess it needs a bit more than that...

Also, I'd love to export the content and upload it to, say, MediaWiki, which is more the standard these days (even Linden Lab is pushing all their wikis to MediaWiki). But... it seems also not to be so easy as I thought. Ah well. We'll figure something out!
