MoCA

Post by Rubaiyat »

I am interested in working with the board of the MoCA to setup a schedule for exhibits. I am currently running a gallery on the mainland called Ars Virtua (http://slurl.com/secondlife/dowden/40/52). We currently have shows open in two galleries and are preparing for our 3rd to open at the end of June.

I have an idea for an innagural show for the MoCA and a team of people that could help with it (though I might need some additional help).

Who do I ask, how do we get this started?

Please discuss this with Diderot, as he is the only remaining member of the Trustees of the MoCA. It operates under a charter with the City as a semi-private entity.

In the history of Neualtenburg, the successful realization of the museum has been a frustrated goal. Perhaps, now, with yours and others energies, it can finally happen. It is there because, while not yet a realized vision, every participant in the City has felt the need for the cultural/artistic part of our community that it could be.

I voted not yet because I have yet to find my way inside the MoCA except to view the model of the new sim. I would have been happier with a "maybe" or an "I don't know" though :)

Have there been any shows in the MoCA yet?

I had a maybe on there at the end, but it dropped off somehow.

Oh well. What is your vision for the MoCA? What exactly does it mean to N'burg, is it a state supported art venue (which I think is very cool), or is it something else?

The MoCA is a private enterprise by the name of "The MoCA Society", which is organised as a non-profit charity organisation.

The MoCA Society is governed by a board of three governors, who were Kendra Bancroft, Farfletched Ixchel and myself. Sadly, the other governors have now left the city.

I propose to hold an extraordinary general meeting of the society where we can elect new board members.

We pay monthly fees of roughly 2,905L$ for the land on which the MoCA resides. We borrow the building from the Guild and the purchase price of the plot was waived.

We are currently running under a six month agreement with the government, which expires in the beginning of September.

The MoCA Society currently has no income and relies on private donations. Our current treasury has a balance of some 9,546L$ all donated anonymously by citizens.

I'd heartily welcome any citizen who has good ideas on how to bring the MoCA further into the society. However, any idea needs to take into account the fact that we need to become self-sustaining in 3 months (i.e. a monthly income of at least 2,905L$) or be able to attract a significant sum of money from private donations. Considering the (under)performance of the MoCA Society so far I'd reckon we need to show what we're worth before any citizen would be willing to submit any further private donations.

If there's a general interest in it I'd be happy to call for an extraordinary general meeting of the MoCA Society. Perhaps this coming Sunday would be a possibility? Let me know what you think. I'm also available either here or in world for further questions.

Please include me in MoCA meeting

As I have said to a few others, I have several ideas about the MoCA and have started a more or less successful gallery on the mainland.

I would love to have the opportunity to give everyone a tour and talk about a proposal for the MoCA.
