Proposal for new NGO: CDS Tourist Guides

Post by Diderot Mirabeau »

Would any citizens be willing to join a scheme where we volunteered to be available in one of the CDS sims for one - two hours per week in order to greet and guide visitors? Perhaps we could also discuss developing equipment to give the visitors a better experience and probably Chicago's efforts in developing documentation could be utilised to great benefit by such an initiative.

If you're in principle interested and willing to spend 1 - 2 hours per week as a volunteer citizen guide near the telehubs in one of the CDS sims please post in this thread. Based on the feedback I will post a followup inviting to join a founding meeting, a new group or something to that effect.

I volunteer.

Yes we need more people who are simply -present- in the sims.

Top, thanks for your support for the proposal.

I'd love to proceed with it - but it seems a bit pointless to me to start this initiative on the basis of two citizens' contributions. We're already somewhere in the CDS an hour per day so I don't think it would terribly noticeable if we alone started out on this initiative.

Perhaps we can chase down our PIO and persuade him to start up weekly newsletters where our advertisement for help in this matter was prominently listed. I imagine it might be a job that many citizens would feel capable of carrying out - in fact I'm sure most already do so on an informal basis - but as it has been long established, many citizens don't actively read the forums.

Hello Diderot, a shame to hear that we're the two "lonely sad lost guides" ..

Yes, contacting our PIO is an excellent idea.

You're right, one doesn't need to be experience or trained, all it requires is enthusiasm. I gave a tour for two visitors a week ago and it was great fun to do so.
(Albeit the newbies showed some strange newbie-like behaviour, which sometimes was frustrating!)

Second, it would be great to combine this activity with the proposed idea of a tourist office, as proposed by several factions (Hello factions?).

I have also tried to act as an informal tourist guide. Unfortunately, now that Ash has turned his skills toward convincing people to leave the CDS, rather than join it, we have lost our best tourguide by having him join enemy ranks.

I think that we should consider this an "avenue of citizenship by service" under the reformed guild. This is already part of the Simplicity Party's sim revitalization plan. After the election, we will be able to redouble our sim revitalization efforts -- and sim promotion will be at the top of the agenda.

Let's keep things simple enough to be fair, substantive enough to be effective, and insightful enough to be good.
