Election Results Party?

Post by Justice Soothsayer »

I don't know how long it will take to obtain results after polls close on Saturday 20 January, but it might be fun to have an Election Results party. We'd need a display board for the results, some election posters, and lots of balloons and champagne corks to pop. I think we might generate some publicity for CDS by holding a celebration of democracy.

Anyone else interested?

Election Results Party?

Post by Sleazy_Writer »

Sounds like a good idea!

But .. Is it possible to publish the (cumulative) votes in an incremental way? Like display the results of Sat. 13th first, then add those of Sunday the 14th etc.
That would make it more fun to watch!

FlyingRoc? Some kind of timestamp on each value in the database perhaps?

(If it takes too much time, forget about it .. :-) )

Hm, there isn't a timestamp on te database, but an email of the vote is sent to a couple of places as a backup source of data, we could get the time info from those.

Let me see what I can do, but no promises. :-)

With all due respect this is a [i:1j43djbf]bad[/i:1j43djbf] idea. Making public any information other than the number of people who have cast ballots suggests the direction the vote is going and may discourage people from voting if they believe the results have already been determined.

I must say that I agree with Claude.

I don't think TOP was suggesting revealing the ongoing tallies while the polls are open, but looking for a more dramatic way of unveiling the results after they close on Saturday ("the Miss Runner-up award goes to...") Maybe announcing the results by day isn't the best way to achieve the drama, though.

Yes, I meant what Justice is saying. (And ofcourse wait 'till the polls are closed!)

Justice > What would you suggest to add some drama/excitement to the revealing of the results?

Watching the calculation of the Sainte-Laguë method is akin to watching paint dry. Perhaps the announcement could be every 15 minutes starting with "the 5th seat on the RA goes to..." and ending with "the LRA will be..."

Flyingroc and Gwyn are intending to hold an election-results party in the Thermae (the baths) in Colonia Nova, this saturday the 20th, 6 pm SLT.

Much better to have it in the baths than in the sewers!
