In addition to the CDS Events forum, make an Event Announcements forum that is one post per thread only. All events announcements wil be cross-posted betwen the CDS Events forum and the Event Announcements forum.
This will allow us to take the rss feed for the forum, and format it to put in a web page. ( for example: http://flyingroc.org/nburg/events/eventpage.php ). This in turn allows tighter integration betwen the forum, the main CDS website, and perhaps even in-world objects.
This scheme requires the events poster to post on 2 forums, which makes it somewhat clunky, but the RSS feed displays the last post instead of the first. If there was a way to get a feed of first posts, then we don't need two separate forums.
