New Sim?

Post by Dnate Mars »

I have been bored as of late and I was thinking about the future of the CDS. The next logical step is of course new sims. I am hoping to get some feed back on what others think our next sim should be. I was thinking of a few ways that this could go. We could expand one of the existing themes by adding another sim next to it; we could create a new theme sim, with public land, builts, etc.; or we could also do a "no theme" sim. We could create a sim that is nothing but residential. We could design the ground layout and have a simple, no business, no plywood, etc. rules set. We could also have 2x prim lots with half the sim being unbuilt public land. What are your thoughts? I am just throwing ideas out just because it is on my mind.

I guess I should have read the rest of the forum [i:3i2uxyg6]first[/i:3i2uxyg6]. I still want to hear what others think, even if it is not really plausible. I would rather this be more of just what people want then what needs to be.

I for one, would like to see something like
[url:3i2uxyg6]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_Islands[/url:3i2uxyg6] to be in SL. Something that is bigger then just a single sim. A great build that spans multiple sim would really stand out.

Master and Commander

I suggest a multi-purpose sim that would be situated between Neufreistadt and Colonia Nova, and would mark both a geographically sensible transition between the mountainous region of NFS and the sea-level area of CN, and the keystone to two future CDS continents: a Northern one and a Sountern One.

The sim would be Gibraltar-like topographically (for a very rough idea, see: http://www.astromia.com/fotostierra/fotos/gibraltar.jpg), with high mountains in the south, slowly descending into a point oriented northwards. The montains could combine with those of NFS and be transformed into a winter sports resort, as has already been proposed by some (check out the Peachtree Resort sim for an example - including the wonderful ski lift that could be used to take peoople from the beach level to the ski resort level). The point could become a Gibraltar-like fortress, where the theme would be 18-th century French/English/Spanish Naval Warfare (think Master and Commander - the Far Side of the World with Russel Crowe). A good example is also the Valetta, Malta fortress (see here: http://www.brodyaga.ru/pages/photos/Mal ... 196466.jpg). The center of the sim would be a naval passage, that could remain public but for which citizens would be able to buy navigation rights to build and maintain ships.

The northern side of the sim woul be a beach slowly rising to the level of CN, that would have a cape in the NE corner connecting with the CN river and sea, allowing both for a mediterranen beach atmosphere and more flexible land use similar to that of the south-of-the-river CN lands.

This would be a great sea-based theme, appealing to many who love this period and wish to own ships, would sove the topographical problem of creating a transition between NFS and CN, would allow us to use the mountains of NFS to develop a winter resort, and provide CN with access to a mediterranean-type beach. Most importantly, it would build the core point of two new continents, from which we could plan our future sims in a sensible and coherent manner.

I have posted a topographic map of my proposal in the CN Praetorium, for all those who wish to see it in detail.[/b:ga5gnkar]

I for one, have always disliked that Dubai Palm island :-)
Bad kitsch on a billion dollar scale. But yes it would stand out.

Michels idea sounds good, I like the idea of bridging the NFS-CN gap with only 1 sim.

We need to connect Neufreistadt and Colonia Nova to make a united community. I am against the ideal of making an unconnected 3rd sim. I will not support it in any fashion and would be forced to reexamine my continued support of the CDS.
My position will not change in this matter. I was against Colonia Nova being separated from Neufreistadt. I am stating my position of being against the creation of a 3rd unconnected sim in the strongest possible terms. I will not change my mind. I am drawing a line in the sand.

Don't worry, I think most people will agree with you (and so do I).
That's a good line in the sand.

On that point, the master plan was always to connect the 2 sims. The thought at the time was that a void would fill the space once we were large enough to afford sims that would not pay for themselves.

I like the ideas so far!

I have[/url:tdr7uco5] renamed the "City Reconstruction Forum" to "Sim and City Planning" and encourage people to post their thoughts, ideas and discussion of issues relating to the next sim and the work of the regional planning commission there[/url:tdr7uco5].

No, not a future void sim but the next sim, being spread out is not doing our traffic a lot of good among other things. When I have been able to log in, I usually see a pair of mostly empty sims. Another theme will also help to spilt us further.
No I have said my peace. I will be offline for awhile for work reasons. Hopefully the next time online I will have a high-speed Internet connection.
May the Stars Shine on all of your paths!
