I have taken up the chalange and patched the wall

Post by Samantha Fuller »

Up close the section looks slightly difrent as if two difrent contractors with difren't philosophies built sections to the same specifications.
Dianes work looks somewhat more detailed because she Used Several more large custom textures.

If Diane ever gets around to selling her "medieval City Assembly Kit," the patch can be replaced with orignal material. But if not i woud like to replace the entire section between the towers because my work woud look beter not imeadiatly adjacent to Diane's, in which case i coud change the design slightly so not be so primy and topheavy looking. 8)

In adition i woud like the RA to autheroise the replacment of one of the towers the curent ones are 6 prims each but don't alow entry or ackses to the covered walkways of the wall new ones that do and have a low prim spiral stairs woud run 10 - 15 prims.

The curent patch has ben stable for about a week so i don't expect it to go flying of into the eather. As to why Diane had a problem it coud have been because of it being on the edge of the world, or it coud have been a bad prim that she keept cloning. When i was trying to work on the patch while it was hanging out over the edge i enccountered all sorts of bugs including 2 or 3 bad prims (2 confirmed and one suspected, i cant link 2 pieces).

These bad prims acount for half of the cases of bad prims in my time on SL. In 3 cases the bad prims wouden't link properly. The other case of a prim not linking involved a boat hull corupted by the malfic influnce of cavorite and in the case the wood prim floor it may have been eaten out by termites causing it to act phantom  So it is posible that a prim coud have gone bad in a way that caused it and others cloned from it to be unstable.

Last time I heard, Samantha was working on a proposal for the Guild to work on a number of smaller projects that would in effect kick off redevelopment. Samantha?

In my short time in NFS ive been intrested in about 6 projects,

(1) the Anzer Info Hub, - I & Top Reworked it as volenters authorized by Alisa, I will probly add a few minor items over time but for now it is on the the back burner.

(2) The Schloss - agian as an athorized volenter i've reworked (replaced much of it) im about 3/4 done.

(3) Patching the wall - because the ongoing gap ofended me and because of Diane's public chalange i simply patched it without official authorization. No one has complained :)

(4) Fixing the Clock Tower, posibly adding a bell and/or visible gears - This one is still a posibility, However my understanding of CDS's record of dealing with content makers means that work in the CDS is more of a vanity than comercial proposion, i still intend to work on NFS from time to time. However due to a reording of my RL priorites encoraging me to find ways to make make my SL life fininancaly self sustaning or profitible, I probbly wont make the deadline for the current exibit.

(5) Replacing the wall towers with ones that allow acess to the covered wall sections - These will require 5 or 6 extra prims each, multiply by 9 towers and you get a large chunk of public prims out of circulation more or less permantly. I think the comunity woud perfer to reserve them for events like the recent Mordern Art exibit or public chess board. So the towers will have to wait untill new teritory is added or the new prims arive.

(6) A quest and test for learning and [u:1fwdtojg]certifing[/u:1fwdtojg] building skills - Ive not had time to work on this one also no Guild group has been formed (just CDS group roles) and LL abandoned the rating system, so i have to think of something else to encourage participation.

The new guild is still getting organized, but one of the items in our charter is to organize a system for certification of builder / designers. Would you like to start sketching out a system of certifications?

The key idea behind the guild is that while we cannot offer money for work, we can offer opportunities for learning and certification. That is we need highly skilled volunteers, but mainly to teach other people.

The community may also sometimes offer contracts for work, but as we are mainly a voluntary society and very limited funds are available it makes more sense to invest in our own citizens' skills. That way, also, the next time a Dianne or Samantha is not available we will have someone to fill in the walls.

I think we need to make it a definite goal to train at least three new citizens to work on each sim by the end of this year. And redevelopment projects are a great way to do that.

The new guild will meet on Saturday at 10 AM SLT and I would love to see someone volunteer to organize redevelopment projects. We will also be electing a faculty chair to help organize the educational aspects of the guild. So all of you, please come to the meeting.

Thanks,

Jon

Do we really want to spend time on this project when LL is developing an official cert process? I think that our time would be better spent developing classes once this LL process is established. We can also get a head start on things while we wait and just develop classes that people can take and have "tests" or something of that nature to "pass" the class.
